There are 2 banks of exhaust, as im sure you gathered. I THINK bank 1 is right and bank 2 left, of course I could just be nuts. Anyways, it means either you have an exhaust leak around the cat, or simply your catalytic converter has gone bad. Look for an exhaust leak first, otherwise, I dont think it hurts performance or fuel mileage, I had the same thing happen to a car I once had... Hope my rambling helped some!!

Yes what he said ...............if you have to replace a O2 sensor, go ahead and replace both at the same time....... If one of the cat is gone then you should replace with a High Flow Cat and a killer exhaust
