Default Crankshaft Sensor....6 TIMES!

Hi there, I am new to the forum and welcome any and all responses. I have a 1996 Dodge Ram Van B2500. Runs great, about 140k miles on it, and I have had the crankshaft sensor fail and be replaced about 6 times over the last 3 years!

I am not a mechanic, but from what I understand, this is not a part that should be wearing out so frequently. Do any of you have any clues as to what could be continually causing the sensor to fail? I'd like to get to the root of the problem, rather than continue to replace this sensor.

thanks!
