Default Defective Water Pump

My original water pump on my 2001 5.9L was squeaking so I bought a Bosch new pump and installed it. I had a leak. It looked like it was around the gasket. Being an amateur, I assumed I had screwed up the gasket seal with too much RTV. I bought a new gasket and reinstalled carefully being sure not to use to much RTV. Still leaked.

Today I finally saw the leak coming from the bearing and shaft. This is a new water pump. How often does this happen? I know the right thing to do is take it out, exchange it, and re-install but I'm so discouraged I'm seriously thinking about putting a can of Bahrs in there and if it seals forget about it. Somebody talk me out of it.

Ken
Already 2 time loser do I go for 3?

3rd times the charm!! I would really buy another one. Yes, it is more costly, but it is better for that pretty truck of yours if you do. Hope I talked you out of it, and good luck this time!!

Take it out and return it! You don't want it to break on you when you are out driving somewhere! I just changed mine out and replaced it with a bosch with no problems. I too am an amatuer when it comes to working on trucks, but would not want to break down somewhere and have to tow it somewhere to fix it that third time anyways...
