Default Better rear end gears

Hey everyone,

I have a 04 4.7 QC and was curious to find out what would happen if i put the rear diff gearing from another ram with a bigger engine like a 5.7 or even a srt10 rear end. Can it be done? If so will i see a differance in driveablilty. I dont tow anything but I do have all terain tires tires and my overall wheel height is 26" wheel and tire. I also have a CAI and flowmaster exhaust, I will be reprogramming the computer in the near future but lately i have been noticing a big drop in power. On the highway i cannot seem to get over 90 mph. obviously without ading a turbo or charger or nos what else can i do to bump up the power a tad bit more.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
jeff

Do you know what gears you have now? I have a 4.7 and it came with the 3.92 gears as part of the Big Horn Package.

Curious what gears most run or think you should run to get better mileage, when towing light trailer and 1000lbs of stuff on it. Say 1500lbs total. Have 3.55 gears in rear now. was thinking with the extremely tall factory tires same height as a 31 10.5 x15 this truck is over geared even for highway mileage, with such a small V8. Sure it puts out great power numbers but at the cost of mileage..

The gearing doesn't matter as long as it comes from or made for a Chrysler 9.25" Rear End. Hopefully by the end of the year I will have a DTT and 4.56's installed.

Don't Fear the Gear.

That's exactly what I'm about to get installed. I got the Motive 4.56 gear set, install kit, and DTT from Moe's. The install kit didn't come with ring gear bolts, however. I bought new bolts at the dealership. I don't think it is a good idea to re-use ring gear bolts. I am also going to install Lakewood traction bars. By the way, I have heard that on the '06 and newer 9.25" the 4.56 ring gear has case clearance problems that guys are fixing with a little grinding.

If you want to find out what gears you have from the factory there usually is a sticker on the inside of the glove box door that tells gear ratio and if it is limited slip.

Also, my ram has a sticker around my front axle stating the gear installed. Probably does for most Rams also I would assume....

A general rule of thumb we use is if your tires are 30" or taller then 4.56's would be the better choice of gear ratio. If your tires are 29" and shorter then 4.10's would be the better choice of gear ratio.

SPEED SAFE, AIR RAM
