Default What is the truth about trans and diff fluid?

I have read on the internet that the 5-speed manual transmission and the differential(s) on my 4 wheel drive '02 should not just be topped off with regular 80W90 gear oil. Is this true? I know that the rear diff would need the posi-trac additive. But, would I have to buy the Mopar brand fluids that they recommend, or is that just the usual dealership/factory BS? Thoughts?

Thanks,
Daniel
