Default AEM Brute Force intake question

hello, I've got a question about an intake I just purchased for my 2008 ram. I went with the AEM Brute Force intake and it came with a throttle body spacer.
My question is do I have to install the throttle body spacer or is it optional?
The reason I am asking is because if it is necessary, why wouldn't all intakes come with one.
I've talked to a few people and they have told me that the TBS is not really a help to performance. I'm fairly new to the 5.7 Hemi, so thanks in advance for the help.

I believe that with the aem intake you need to use the spacer for the tube to properly line up into position for the other mounts.

Oh, I didn't even think about that. That makes sense though.

I've got the same set up that you've got. I've got the 5.7L HEMI in a quad cab '08. I installed the spacer, though I haven't seen where it did much, if anything.

As far as actually getting down to it, it wasn't too tough. It comes with longer mounting screws for the TB, simply unscrew the old ones, lift up the TB, insert the spacer and replace with the supplied screws. There weren't any gaskets and such (that I remember) to contend with, so it was pretty straight forward.

The only issue that I had was taking apart the inner fender lining, to remove the old air box. I got it done eventually, but I think that part took longer to do than the rest of the job combined.

good luck

Exco

The TBIs don't really affect the flow velocity and helical spin on a 5.7L much at all. CAIs have a long enough velocity tube from the stock location that the ~1" of the TBI is negligable. Also the helical spin is completely broken up by the intake manifold anyhow. The best use of a TBI is if you plan to run a wet nitrous system then you can drill into it an place your nozzel there.

If you notice a high pitched whistle when you floor it, that is caused by the harmonics through the TBI. if it's there and it annoys you, you can always remove the TBI and add a spacer if you have to have it there to line up the intake tube.
