Default Heavy duty transmission oil cooler

Anyone out there can tell how does a heavy duty transmission oil cooler looks like? maybe some measurements or any other means to tell it from a regular cooler?
Mine is about 4" tall, 1" thick and runs about the same length as the radiator.

Thanks

a heavy duty cooler is any cooler not in the radiator. See the factory cooler is built into the radiator thus the tranny fluid is liquid cooled. a heavy duty cooler is usually added to the existing cooler and further cools the fluid using air. the next way to cool the fluid further would be to hold more; IE a deeper pan. not sure if those are available yet though.

My 09's window sticker lists "Heavy Duty Transmission Cooler" as a standard feature. Is this something different?

Any Dodge with the towing package will have the trans cooler which is a separate unit mounted down low in front of the radiator. You may see two coolers there...one is for the tranny, the other is for the engine oil.

I don't know if they sized them differently from 1/2T to 3/4T or 1T sized trucks. One way to determine that is to find one of each (maybe at the dealer lot) and measure them. Another way is to call the parts department and see if there are three different part numbers for a 1/2T, 3/4T and 1T transmission cooler. I would assume that as you go up in towing capacity, the coolers get larger.

Here are two links for deep and deeper transmission pans. If you look under your truck you may need to have an exhaust shop move your driver to passenger side exhaust cross-over some for it to fit. The way Dodge routed it from the factory is really close to the pan. I did mine to give me the option and I had a custom y-pipe (see pics) put in at the same time.
