Amsoil, and mobile1 Are the two best fully synthetic oils that are available. I run Amsoil lubricants in all my stuff. In my Harley when I switched from regular oil to synthetic oil it lowered the temperature of the oil 30 degrees. That is a huge difference on an air cooled v-twin. I will never use anything but Amsoil from here on out. Most importantly, find a brand, and type of oil and stick with it. Do not change around all the time. just my $0.02 worth.

Oh yes you are right Smitty. The viscosity is the same. The reason people think synthetic is thinner is because it leaks out where regular oil does not always leak. This is because in synthetic lubricants the molecules are all equal in size (makes it flow smoother) and do not build up and cling together like fossil oil does, and clog up the actual leak in the engine. Synthetics are the way to go if you can run it and not leak it all out on the ground.

42000 Miles is a little late to change now. Your piston rings will allow it to burn oil since synthetic is extremely thin. Just keep an eye on your oil level. Also Mobil 1 is hands down the best synthetic besides AMSOil. Good luck with the switch.

The viscosity change shouldn't cause any leaks at that low of miles. I just got my '03 with 40K and went straight to mobile 1 truck/suv synthetic. No leaks.

Hi guys, i'm a mechanic and waiting for my brand new RamSport... anyways just to tell you that there's nothing better for your truck than synthetic and its never too late to switch. Remind the mechanic who told you that that you can match the thickness of your actual oil by the same grade on synthetic. First oil change in my truck and i switch right away to Amsoil synthetic witch for me is the best.

Have fun...

I have used Mobil 1 oil for twenty years in all of my cars and trucks. As of the mileage issue I have a Toyota T-100 it had over 80k on the clock when I got it used in 1997 the truck is a 1995 I still drive it everyday to work on a 75 mile round trip the truck has 320,117 miles on it. NO leaks, we also have a 2001 chevy blazer 4x4, a 2005 Dodge Ram 5.7 hemi, and a 2007 Dodge Nitro, all use Mobil 1 no problems or leaks, I think if anyone exprienced any leaks from changing to fake oil motor was already leaking or was about to leak

Hey, we should all meet up sometime and bs, i'm from the queen creek area...and I would personally stay away from quaker state and penzoil, I have been involved in import racing as well as drag racing and they all swear by mobil one, from what I have seen...it's the best.

Is there a major chain that carries AmsOil or do you have to get it from a independent seller??
