iv got 204000 miles on my v10. only major service to the engine was a valve job after previous owner had a head gasket blow while pulling a camper. all those miles and she still pulls a 10000 lb bobcat and lights up those 33" all terrains. oh and i out ran my buddies dodge with the 318

there is one quirk that I have noticed. If your dash hasn't cracked yet it probably will.

I just recently bought a 2001 3/4 ton v10 ram with 175,000 miles. This is the second v10 ram I have owned now and the 4th ram all together. Despite some rumors on the internet about the v10 having a short life span I definitely love this motor, lots of raw torque. I truly believe any motor has some potential for long life as long as somebody maintains it. I personally hope to take my truck well over 200,000 miles as I have seen 2 similar trucks with 240,000 miles and 256,000 miles. The only disappoint for me with the V10 is the lack of high end after market performance parts for this motor ex. superchargers. Also the catalytic converters do go out pretty often as I have replaced 2 in the last year on my companies Dodge Rams. So if you feel your being robbed of power the cats are a good place to check. If there's any other advice I can give to you let me know.

i dont have cats on my 98 v10 and it runs like an animal. it didnt come with o2 sensors after the cat so removing them will have no affect on the motor other then letting it exhale a little better.. and its ALOT cheaper then hi-flow cats. just my .02

mine runs fantastic. although for such a big motor is does take surprisingly long to warm up. i did have to have the bands adjusted in the tranny and two blown selonoids inside the tranny that made shifting up from 2nd and down into 2nd pretty uncomfortable. once that was done it has run like a champ. shitty milage but whatever. it wasn't supposed to be my daily driver as i have an 07 mazdaspeed6 but the truck is so comfortable that i take it more often than not. i actually haven't even driven my car in 5 or 6 weeks as of today.

while it is a big motor they arent super radical engines as far as compression ratio and so on so it takes forever to heat all that cast iron up, and having purchased a spare backup block and seeing how theyre cast there is ALOT of iron. a couple years ago i got a block heater installed in mine. It was a christmas present (family are all gear heads) so i have no idea what brand it is
