Default Recalls and TSB's

If there are recalls out there, how do we know to get it fixed? I have found a list of TSB's and a couple of Recalls. Will Dodge contact us, or do we have to research these things on our own?

There are Recalls, RRTs, and TSBs. The only one you will get a notice for is a Recall. It is usually safety related in some way so they will notify you so the issue can be fixed. They will also be listed on the NHTSA website.

On the stated Recalls, the info in the first post is not accurate. I saw the same thing on the alldata website but the steering issue is with a small number of the HD trucks, not the 1500. No idea why they have it listed wrong but the info is not correct. The actual recalls for a 2009 1500 Ram are one for the windshield wiper motor and one for the manual climate control, neither of which they list. And just because you own a 2009 doesn't mean you have either issue so if you didn't get a card in the mail, you shouldn't have the problem. But you could ask your dealer or just plug your Vin into the Dodge site recall section and it will tell you if your truck is affected. I believe it is in the Owners section.

An RRT is a service that the dealer can perform when you take it in that relates to customer satisfaction. For instance, they discovered an issue with the rear end vent hose. The factory makes a running change and then when you take the truck in to be serviced for anything, the dealer then completes any open RRTs such as the one for the vent hose. Some early trucks had several RRTs, newer builds maybe only 1 or 2. The dealer is actually supposed to complete any open RRTs before delivery. These are not necessarily big issues, just minor things that were updated during production that they offer to update on the units already built to help keep the customer satisfied.

Then lastly, there are TSBs. They are Technical Service Bulletins for the Service Department to help with fixing issues. For instance, a TSB may come out that would say if a customer comes in complaining of spark knock, be sure to check out such and such and if that checks ok, then use XXX flash to fix the issue. Not necessarily a problem for everyone, but it helps the service dept find a fix for those that do. So you may read about convertor shudder but that has nothing to do with your truck. It just tells them what to look for if a customer has the issue.

So basically, just drive your truck and don't worry. If it has a recall, then you should be notified. If you take it in for anything, the dealer is supposed to complete any open RRTs for your truck.

Hi All:
The above info is correct to a point. I took my "09" CC SLT in for its first oil change and asked the Service Advisor to check for any RRT's. NOTHING DONE! Went on line and checked for RRT'S and found 4. These, along with the MDS update was performed, upon my insistance. The MDS update took a week or so for the computer to "learn" but was well worth it. You have to keep up with the updates to your truck, check all the Dodge Ram boards, as the dealer will only do what they have to unless you insist.

The RRTs are to be done by the dealer without asking. That is per Chrysler. So if they did not do them, that is a dealer issue. The MDS flash is a TSB for those with an issue. So you should really have an issue for them to do it. That is why so many have met with resistance on that one. It does not add the indicator as has been falsely mentioned on the forums.

Where did you find your RRTs?
