Excoastie, the US Coast Guard was right there with us in the Gulf of Tonkin, just off the coast of Viet Nam
on several occasions the so called russian fishing fleet would block the aircraft carriers from turning into the wind to launch aircraft, claiming that they had nets in the water, the Coast Guard told them to move or else, they moved

It's the same in the Air Force, except when it comes to Chief Master Sergeant (at which time it's only appropriate to call them "Chief Master Sergeant" or just "Chief").

It was a bit of a culture shock going to the Presidio of Monterey for the first time--I had my initial tech school there. Went from having the Marines, Army, and Navy rarely seen on Lackland to being on an Army-run installation with large detachments of just about every service.

Fortunately our NCOs beat the Marine/Navy/Army rank structures into our heads as soon as we arrived, or I'm sure we would've been on the wrong side of a Marine NCO at least once!

Still have a lot of good CID friends from there.

Was in the Navy from 1990-94. Boot camp in sunny San Diego (closed now). Then 22 weeks of what they called A-school. Then off to the Great Lakes for C-school. Reported to the USS Saipan LHA-2 in Norfolk Va. 2 med. cruises to the gulf. Got to see lots of different places.

Default Most memorable experience

In order of military memories here are my top 5.
1. After 13 years of being a "shore" sailor, walking up and checking onto my first ship was one of the most intimidating. USS Chosin (CG65)
2. Performing the reenlistment ceremony for my wife when she reupped in 2006.
3. As an instructor...graduating my first class.
4. Running into the bunker for the first time once in afghanistan. (First night there). Realized where I was and what was going on.
5. Getting my first "closed door" counseling. I was a little cocky arrogant s.o.b. at the ripe old age of 19. Not after that meeting.

When I hear you talking about boot camp, a smile crosses my face as I remember my days in 1956 @ RTC San Diego. I still remember my Company Commander Chief Commisaryman Charmichel. I also remember the look on his face when I returned to RTC San Diego 10 years later to go through C.C. school and he was teaching at Commisary school. I pushed 8-60 man companies while I was there and worked at M.E.D, Drill, and N.I.T when I was in a drop job.
In all the time I was there, I never heard of Battle Stations. Maybe that was the same as when a company didn't do well on a bag/barrecks inspection and needed to pack their bags and go on a trip with their bunks.(march in place w/full sea bag on their bunk and the bunk off the ground). That would considered as maltreatment now.
I retired from the Navy in 1976 as an MMC while @ FMAG, NTC 32nd Street San Diego.
Most Memorable Moments
1. Reenlisting on the helo-deck U.S.S. Jupiter AVS-8 as a nearly slick-arm E-6(4yrs.Oct.
1960-Rated Nov.1960
2. Stbd.CPO of the 7th Fleet Shore Patrol @ Olongapo, PI.
3. Being PQS-Board Certified as a U.E.O.O.W for 1200 PSI Kitty Hawk Class Carriers
on the Kitty Hawk
4. Being a Golden Shell Back.
5. Being on board the Tico CVA-14 and having an aircraft(propjob) blow-up on the cat.in
1958. We thought we may be losing her that day and that was the end of FireQuarters
in the Navy. From then on it was General Quarters period.
