What is the manufacturer recomended oil change interval on the 1500? The manual seems to indicate 6000 miles. However I'm at about 2,600 miles and at 2,500 the Oil Change message started coming up on the dash then I start up.
Now I'm confused about what Chrysler is actually recommending. I assume that a warning at 2,500 is actually a premptive message to prompt you to the oil change by 3,000. The manual say (in the engine oil section) to refer to the scheduled maintinence section. the scheduled maintinence section only list oil changes at 6,000 mile intervals.
Additionally I read that the new computer system is "Duty based" and will warn adjust the interval automatically based on the type of driving you do. In that case however I ought to be able to go much longer. My regular work commute is 26 miles with only one traffic light the entire way, and about 1,400 of my miles so far have been in two 700 mile freeway roundtrip visits up north. Not harsh by any strech of the imagination.
On top of that, I just checked the oil and it seems clean and exactly in the middle of the hatch marks.
So I figured I would just reset the change oil indicator message but when I jump back in the driver seat I now notice the check engine light is on.
Did that come on at the same time as the indicator message and I just didn't notice it or is that something new?
Anyone who has any insite into this would do me a great service if they cared to enlighten me.
