Default Trany issues or what?

I have an 03 2500 diesel, auto, 4x4. I have no problems starting off, but once it gets above 1600 RPMs the power just falls off. It is happening in every gear, maybe not OD. Even if I give it more throttle, it is slow to move and have to wait for it to shift before I get any more speed. I'm hoping it is not the transmission. Think it could be a sensor or something?

It needs to be changed for sure. It has a burnt smell.
I noticed yesterday that if I just drive like going through a neighborhood, nice and easy, that it is fine. It will go up to about 2 grand and shift, but if I get on it just a little bit, the power starts to fall off. It won't free rev either, in gear. I'm wondering if it is a sensor of some kind.

Does your year diesel truck have a catalytic convertor on it . They did start installing them on certain year diesels . It's hard to diagnose a probem like this over the net . If it does , I haven't seen it yet , but I wonder if the cat is clogged up . I know a friend of mine has a cat on his power stroke . He took it off and just put in a straight pipe where the cat was . Runs fine . Little louder than stock . Sounds good . Let me know how you make out . Talk to ya soon . Tom
