Default Missing Tailgate parts?

Hi,

I have a new 2009 Ram 1500 CCSB Sport. When I was looking the truck over before I took delivery, (Power Dodge on Bell Road in Phoenix), it had one strut on the left side of the tailgate that connects the bed to the tailgate. I don't recall if there was a cable/lanyard there also.

When I took delivery, I didn't lower the tailgate to check anything, but later, I found the strut was removed, and now there's just one cable on the left side to keep the tailgate from dropping to the bumper.

The right side of the tailgate is not connected to anything, i.e. it slips right out of the slot it sits in.

This can't be right. Does anyone know what is supposed to be there? I thought I'd ask here first before I modify somebody's eardrum at the dealer.

Thanx,

Frank

I have the ST so different trim line, but the sport should have at least what mine has i expect. I have two cables, one on each side, and the tailgate certainly doesn't slip out of socket.

Maybe you want to wait for somone with a sport to answer first, but that sure sounds wrong to me.

Thank you for getting back to me. I couldn't Google any pictures of the taligate lowered with the struts in place. They were all both side lanyard/cables as you described your own.

I also checked the window sticker. No joy about tailgate info. This must be a trim level thing, (?). Dunno'

My Laramie also has 2 cables.
I think these 2 cables should be on trims as well.
with just one cable, if you put too much load on the other side (which has no cable) I could imagine something breaking or bending...

My 1500 Sport also has two cables.

You definitely need both cables if nothing else.

Something I did notice over the weekend while doing some roof work while standing in the bed of truck.

I put the gate up to make it easier to climb in the bed. Now, while standing in the bed look back at your tailgate.

Look at the daylight that you can see through both sides of the gate.

I was amazed at the lack of seal. or the open space that is there now.

This is my 5th Ram in a row and the first that this is so noticeable.

I had been wondering how things under the Tonneau got so dusty on those back roads. Now I know.

Looks like I will have to purchase some kind of door seal to stick on in those two areas. I already have the gate seal at the bottom, came with the tonneau cover.

Let me know your findings.
