Default Torque converter seems to be locked

I have a 98 dodge ram 1500 with the 5.9L auto 4x4. Not too long ago I buried the thing in a bad ass mudhole and the tranny filled with mud water. I had it rebuilt and the tranny has been fine ever since except just last week I developed this unusual problem. Start the engine in park, put my foot on the brake, shift into drive and the engine dies immediately. The truck lurches quite violently. Like the torque converter is locked. Same for reverse. Truck is totally undriveable. Anybody got any suggestions on what might be the fix for locked torque converter?

The guy figures the pump is shot and they found lots of metal debris in the bottom of the pan and stuck to the magnet. Bottom line....tranny is done

Front pump was a weak point in the mid to late 90s transmissions...

My Ford Ranger did the exact same thing. It was the throttle position sensor. It got stuck wide open which told the transmission that I was at wide open throttle which locked the torque converter up. So I would put it in drive and the truck would basically stall and die or if I put it in neutral gave it a lot of gas and put it in drive it would jerkingly launch forward. It happened not to long after I rebuilt my transmission too which was because of mud riding.
You will get some metal deposits on the magnet after a rebuild that's normal just break in.
