Default Problems with my 2005 engine

My 2005 Dodge Cummins engine Problems are, a few months ago I started noticing black smoke while towing, that eventually progressed to a lil more so I got the overhead done (259k mi.)at a cummins shop ($250). Well that didn't take care of the smoking. 8k miles later while towing in down town Chicago the belt tension pulley lets go, throwing the fan belt and I drove a mile to get off the road and shut down with out getting it hot. Got fixed and the next rip I had to put in 1 new battery, All the while still smoking as usual. Finally under a load at 265k miles I started getting reduced power and a fuel cough, a big puff of smoke, then it would drive 25-75 miles before doing it again. I drove 200 mi. that way getting it to a big Dodge. There they were suppose to put it on the computer. What they did was a kill test(a $100) and said I had low contribution from 1&5 cyl and recommended replacing those injectors (for $1550) and a compression test.I declined. limped home and I ordered 2 reman. injectors from Fla. Diesel for ($185 ea.) and had Cummins install them for $340. The truck still ran like crap so I called Dodge and they said bring it back and they would check it for free again. I did and they said now cyl 1 still had low contribution and recommended a compression test. I agreed (another $100) and it tested 370-380 psi. said it was low and didn't test any adjacent cylinders to get a comparison, and recommended taking the head off. 11 hrs at $99 per hr. I said no thanks and limped home. I called Cummins and they recommended a blow by crankcase test. Agreed and $340 later it passed with 4 inches (in spec). They cant plug into the computer because of Dodges proprietory plug in and software. They looked in the exhaust manifold to see if there was a wet sleeved and didn't see any thing abnormal. My brother who is a mechanic says he thinks its electronic, and wants me to get a oil sample and that will tell me if there is anything falling apart internaly. The Whole of the problems is that it still smokes and it acts like its missing and the engine shudders. Any clues ??

Not real sure . I don't see that much diesel work . I would be swinging in the dark . I understand the basics and the controls (similar to cars) . Will have to pass on this one . Let us know what they find . Don't forget to go to the newbie section and receive your official welcoming .
