Default Major misfire problem

i got a 98 dodge with the 5.9 i have had it for like four months and all the sudden it starts misfiring like crazy. i read the codes and it says misfire in one and eight and a random/multiple misfire code. does anyone have an idea as to what is causing this

It sounds like it's something in the tune up side . Cap , rotor , wires , plugs . When was the last time it was tuned up . You may have even got a bad load of fuel . Could have water in it making it miss . Thats a possibility . If you don't think its in the fuel go ahead and do a good tuneup . If you can get a fuel line off , get a glass jar and take a fuel sample . Let it sit and see if it seperates . Let me know . Tom P.S. don't forget to go to the newbie section and introduce yourself .

i know this is trivial, and i'm not questioning your intelligence, but have you checked to make sure your wires are running to the right cylinders?

check the obvious first if its running rough check for any vaccum leaks, then remove a couple of plugs and look at them, does it only run rough at idle? random misfire usually indicates something that is affecting all cylinders 1 and 8 are on oppisite banks.

Sounds like what the guys here are saying. Tune up. The HEI system eats caps and plugs every 25 to 30K miles. A note of warning here. If the Dist cap screws don't come out easily don't force them. They will snap off in the distributor. Apply some heat to the side of the Dist. and the screws should come out ok. Neverseize them upon install.
