Thumbs down California: Ammunition restriction bill on governor's desk

A bill that would require buyers of handgun ammunition to leave thumbprints and detailed personal information with registered ammo sellers, as well as put restrictions on online bullet sales, is sitting on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's desk.

Luckily it won't affect me in Canada, but I already have to supply my government with so much already just to own a gun and buy ammo. I can see the benefits of the bill in urban areas where there is a whole lot of gang violence, but for joe blow in the country who uses his gun(s) for keeping livestock safe, it'd be a real piss off. But that's the way govt.s think, deal with the big cities, that's where the voters that matter are...

Simply amazing...

As a responsible gun owner it infuriates me to see articles like this. Time and time again liberal law makers are focusing on a bandaid solution that is not even going to fix their problem. Guns are not the problem, criminals are the problem. Making ammunition sales or gun sales more difficult only hurts responsible Americans (or Canadians, is some circumstances). Criminals will obtain guns and ammo no matter what laws we pass, they work outside the law, hence the name outlaws. Our laws do not apply to them.

I read a great story a few months ago, about a country who was making it almost impossible to obtain guns...you know what happened? The number of knife related murders and robberies increased.

Remove criminals from the equation, now there's your solution.

I dont think its got anything to do with big city ideas or anything like that, the guns the crooks use are stolen, requiring people to register guns didnt do a thing to control crime and neither will registering to by ammo
Its more a way of controlling people and their lives...
just another way to wear down what few rights law abiding citizens may still have

That law passed last month in the City where I live. Not a problem though, I will just purchase all my ammo while on vacation out of state.

Any infringement on our rights is "a problem though".

Yeah, "crimes can be committed" by criminals (but isn't murder already illegal).
