Default Burn baby burn.

I tell ya, sometimes my job is just fun to be in. This is in the pressure up stage of a gas plant and that's the flare stack. notice the 120' fire ball anyone?

That's not out by Cochrane by chance is it? I had to go out there last night and all you could see from HWY 22 was a fireball!

Lol, yeah it was at the plant out on 1A. We'd just finished the turnaround at this point. It's not uncommon to see flaring like that from the plants. You should see the one right on the hill above cochrane at inter-pipeline. The flare there has been known to hit 250' high and be seen from the west end of calgary. At least they're controlled burns, except when they spark up the grass around the plant from the radiant heat. I don't know if i could ever live in cochrane or edmonton knowing how much SO2 gets pumped out of the flare and incinerator stack. Just has be a good wind.. and you have another lodgepole. Oh, and one of my co-workers was on Nabors 18 when it happened too... should see some of his pictures.

And local fire departments aren't allowed to handle these. We bring in Firemaster. Also, notice all the gas on the rig floor... that's a H2S sour well... And you have to love it when the blowout is so bad you do this to your rig...

You can see a lot of those around here, also, as we have many gas plants here, and on a windy day, they're really cool to look at, but on a foggy night if I am driving, they light up the whole sky! It's a wonder with all the underground pipelines that something hasn't blown up, yet, but what's really cool is to see the rigs offshore flare at night, now that's a pretty sight!
