Default 2001 Ram Code 0455, evap leak

Any chance this is a common problem on these trucks? I had the same problem with my Intrepid, turned out to be the gas cap, Not so lucky on the truck.

Just thought I woud ask for ideas before It goes to the dealership.

Thanks

yeah if the gas cap is on properly and tightened, then you may have a leak somewhere...possibley from the fuel tank vapor lines,

My '01 Dakota with the 4.7 had evap line issues every 9 months... codes p0442 and p0455
Either the line at the evap canister near the fuel tank would split, or the lines under the hood that go to the vacuum pump would split. Once was it the hose to the throttle body, never got "lucky" enough that it was just a loose cap.

They can perform a smoke test to pinpoint the leak if there is one present .

Yep, been there and done that myself. It was a cracked evap cannister.

Sometimes, depending on your mileage, the evap cannister may need to be cleaned and recharged with new media. Newer vehicle evap cannisters cannot be serviced and are a maintenance replacement.
