Default Chip

Just double checking before I purchase one, but installing a chip does NOT void your dodge warranty, correct?

yes it does...Sorry to tell you that...Anything such as an exhaust, CAI, performance chip, etc...if anything is altered that is covered in your warrenty, than it will not be covered after the installation of the aftermarket product...And if you do, and then take it in for service but take off the aftermarket parts, and they find out....you may be speding some more money for bail...

The Magnasun Moss Act states that they can only void the warrantee on the parts you change. An exhaust, intake, etc will do absolutly nothing to you warrantee! its only when you do a cam, heads and such that they "can" void your warrantee...

Using a tuner will not void your warranty unless said tuner was the cause of the failure, like having changed your shift points and blowing your transmission. So, what others have done is use the tuner, but if it's going in for servicing, out the factory tune which your tuner should save before it over writes it. This feature is on the diablo predator for sure, not possitive about superchips though.

Not necessarily...if the warranty actually states that any type of aftermarket part cannot be installed on the car, than yes the warranty will be voided....

pretty much, you need to find out exactly what the warranty "you signed" states, and then go from there...If you do not see anything about not being allowed to install aftermarket parts, than go for it....Get the CAI, exhaust, and chip...But if the warrenty does say not to install aftermarket parts, than its obvious that it will be voided....

Hey guys, just thought I would give you guys an update. I spoke with a tech at dodge, adding a chip, other than the one they offer for every year excluding 07-08, VOIDS your warranty. I'm not sure if the includes powertrain, because its only non-lubricated parts, or not but it voids all others. Thanks for input.

MOPAR may still offer a performance tuned PCM for your truck. They've done so in the past.

The beauty of the Predator is that it doesn't erase code on the PCM (whether it's the intitial installation or removing the program) and doesn't leave any telltale "ghosts" on the computer. You can install and remove the program (go back to stock) and when the MOPAR tech scans your computer, there's no evidence that it was even there.

One of the hardest concepts for a dealer and the consumer to grasp is the terms of the Magnusson legislation regarding warranty with respects to a vehicle that has been modified. It's vague and does not place the burden of proof on either party to show that a modification did not cause a failure of a stock part or system.

Obviously, if you install a programmer you are touching a lot of parts with the changed parameters and that complicates the matter further. However, it should be fairly straightforward to convince the dealer you get warranty on something that breaks, like the radio burning out, where the mod (like a programmer) has no direct or indirect connection to that component.

You just gotta know how to approach the whole issue. And, as I said, with the Predator, there's no indication left on the PCM that it was ever there when you return the program to stock. So, the "You've modified your vehicle and voided your warranty" discussion should never be an issue.

I've had my vehicle in to the dealer for warranty several times and I routinely remove the program, go back to stock and I know they've queried the PCM during the warranty service. They've never noted on any of my service paperwork that a revised or enhanced aftermarket program has been installed.
