Default New muffler only...

Hello. I went to a local shop to get an aftermarket exhaust. I told them that I didnt want to go any larger than the 2.5 inch pipes due to wanting to preserve my low end torque. When they got it up, he said that it has stock 3 inch pipes and that I wouldnt gain performance by putting on after market pipes, but could just swap out mufflers to make the truck have a meaner sound. ( the truck just has the factory muffler that makes it sound like my 4 cylinder Kia ). I even asked about putting on a better Y section in the exhaust since I read on here that it is a little pinched. He said that it didnt look like it would be worth my while changing that out since it was still pretty open. When they put on the Magnaflow muffler, it does sound like a truck now, but it seems that I may have lost some of my low end torque when it shifts into 2nd gear. It seems that it bogs down a little or seems a little less responsive. Could just swapping out a muffler cause that or could it just all be in my head? I do have a BFI CAI on order as well as a Diablo programmer. Could these other two pendings mods improve my torque? Thanks for your ideas... -- Tim

Great choice on a muffler, Tim. I think you are imagining things re: 2nd gear torque but no worries. The intake and the Predator will take care of that for you and provide you a whole lot more power.

^^ agreed. Just swapping out the muffler wouldn't cause a loss in torque. The BFI and predator will really wake up the HEMI.

Where did you take your truck? I want mine to sound a lot better but don`t want to sink a lot of money into it.

I took my truck to Iowa muffler and Brake. it was about $213 for the muffler and labor. It sounds a lot better and I am glad I did it!
