Well I did it. I ordered the Brake Controller and Bezel. Dealers in my area will not flash my vehicle, but given so many people installed it and advised that the controller will work with out the Flash is what did it for me. I will stop by different dealers and inquire about flashing once installed and hopefully I will come across one thta knows how to do it and is willing.

Hello to all and Happy New year!
I just joined this forum but have been a Dodge owner for the last 16 years with 4 out of 5 of my vehicles being Dodge.
I just purchased a new truck and have been reading up on the ITBM and even spoke to my dealer about it. He don’t have the info at all on this and even after I gave him the part numbers which was found here, he can order me the parts but with no guarantee it will work or even flash the drive so it can work with the EVIC. Since it seems like some of you are dealers, I would like for someone to send me a phone number or something so I can have my dealer call you to get the correct info on the flashing. I can and will do the install, even if I have to do it in their parking lot so they wont think I screwed anything up. My Main concern is the flash. If there is a problem it could toast the drive ( said the dealer) and now I have to buy a new one. I would think with a new truck it would be under warrantee but who knows, they can charge what they want. Please advise so I can have this done correctly. Thanks in advance for your reply's.
Mike

Hello and welcome..My dealer new exactly what to do, but there are many discussions on this, but from memory, you have to add the code "XHCA" using dealer connect to your VIN number. This will update your software to show the controller and then the dealer will reflash your truck and the EVIC will now show the controller. Just a side note that the controller will work without the flash.

Thanks latitud.
I do know all that from reading the threads here. And informed them of that. Im just afraid that the dealer wont take my opinion and would tend listen to another dealer instead of a customer reading dodge forums. I guess I want to go there tell them to call someone at another dealership to varify my claims and they would feel ok about the install and flash. I guess cold hard facts from a dealer would go farther then a guy with enough knowlage to be dangeous! From thier standpoint that is! LOL!

PS. the parts guy called Chrysler and they also said it wont work, so I kinda insisted it would. He did say there was a kit coming out but as of now it wouldnt work. Anyone know any update on the Kit except it should be out by Feb.??

Make sure you have both plugs under the dash...the small one and the larger one..and you will be fine. Look up under the dash under the OBDII port toward the driver kick panel. They will be taped up to another harness.

Default Trailer Brake Control

Will this work on a 08 Big Horn? If not any ideas on how to install a controller so its not just hanging under the dash? Would like to have a more "factory" look. Thanks for any help

Default How to test Brake Controller is installed properly

I just installed the brake controller, connected the two grey plugs and buttoned everything up. When I start the vehicle the display lights everything up for its power on test and then the display goes out after a few seconds. When I hit the plus or minus button the numbers increment and decrement by .05 from 1 to 10 and after about 20 or 30 seconds the display goes blank again. Same with the slider it displays and then goes out after 20 or 30 seconds. I took the truck our for a quick spin and depressed the brakes but nothing lights up.

I dont have a trailer now that I can test with. From what I described does everything look right. The EVIC has not been flashed. The Evic display shows no errors or messages.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

Yes it is correct, it will do nothing more until a trailer is connected. Good job on the install..pretty easy wasn't it? Except the fact that is doesn't come with mounting screws.

Hi Latitud,
It was a very straight forward install. Had the right size screws no problem there too.

Now to find a dealer that knows how to flash my vehicle and is willing.

thanks for you help

I found a dealer about an hour away who succesfully flashed my vehicle. They had never flashed a vehicle for the trailer brake control. I called about 6 dealers who did not seem interested in wanting to do it.
Anyway all is good. I now have a factory OEM brake controller that is flashed and fully integrated.
Now to wait a few more weeks before I take delivery of our new Travel Trailer.

Thanks to the folks on this forum who are very helpful and are in many cases more knowledgable then the dealers. It was the information here that I provided to this dealer to have them make it all work great.
