Actually, Texas Municipal Retirement System allows for 20 yr retirement. My city provides some benefits at 20 yrs, but gives FULL benefits at 25 yrs. Some of my friends are almost at 30 yrs. My 6 yrs in the Marine Corps allowed me to buy 5 yrs of retirement. So if something should happen that I can't do the job anymore, I can retire at 15 yrs and 20 yrs benefits. GRATEFUL FOR WHAT I GOT!!!! One of my friends had a nasty divorce. Our system down here gives HALF of your retirement to the ex-wife / ex-husband . Well, she passed away and he immediately put in his retirement notice.

Stay safe, take care, and one of my goals is to visit Canada.

Mike

Hey guys and galls. Im currently a Lieutenant here in Russell PA with our local Voltunter Fire Department. I turn 21 here next week and I've been involved in the fire department ever since I was born seeing how my dad was real active in it. But legally been in the department since the week after I turned 14. We're in a very rural setting covering alot of woods and farmlands. We have two engines, one tanker (or tender whichever you prefer to call it) two BLS ambulances, and one of our old ambulances which we converted into a "rescue". Our bread and butter for call volume is ambulance calls number one, then motor vehicle accidents next as we have a main state route that runs north to south through the center of our jurisdiction.

Got out of the Marine Corps and became a cop, after 2 years and at the very last turn of the SWAT course to get me into what I really wanted to do my surgically reconstructed knee decided it wasn't going to let me do it. Moved back up north and I've been working a max/supermax prison ever since. Pay's similar and it doesn't cause me large amounts of pain.

so now I"m your typical jail guard and a firearms instructor.

Just retired from the USAF in Jan, joined our local volunteer fire dept (Bowman VFD) back in Oct. Was a medic for 22 years, ran the In-Place Patient Decon team for 2 years, Self Aid Buddy Care instructor for Sheppard AFB for 2 years, and will be starting EMT classes on Monday through one of the local towns. Currently, we are at the begining of the wildfire season--had a few so far, but rain has been keeping us bored, but thats OK. Last year we had 100 days of 100+ degree days, with a record of 52 consecutive days...the fires were rediculous, but I didn't get in on any of that action. Occasional car wrecks and medical calls are the norm, but wildfires are the real threat since we are rurally located.
