Looks like I'm the rookie of the group. I'm a Park Ranger. I just graduated the academy 11/20/09 but I've been a ranger for 1 year. I love it and I'm working on going reserve for the police dept soon also. I would've never thought I would take the route of LE but here I am and I actually like it.

Im a third generation Fire Fighter and run with 2 fire departments in the area.
I am only a Junior member in both departments but have been around the whole fire department scene since I could walk.

I also want to join the marines and try to be in a sniper unit and make a career out of the military or be a paid firefighter.

Both career choices are honorable. Need to talk with a recruiter and read the fine print because the military will make an attempt to try to get you the MOS you want. Ultimately you will be placed where they need you. If you choose to become a firefighter, you already have an ideal what you will be doing the next 25 to 30 years. Good luck with the path you choose.

maybe i ought to turn in my Public Safety badge, i feel out of place.
i spent my military time as a Aviation Ordinanceman, handling bombs, missiles, & rockets, went through several fire fighting schools before they turned me loose on them.
next i went to work for the California Dept. of Transportation, where they let me go play in traffic, we were often at accidents before the First Responders, setting up traffic control so the site was controlled, & cleaning up the mess after everyone except the Highway Patrol had long gone, i also had Confined Space training, as well as Hazmat Training every year for about 33 years.
now i run a little business escorting oversize loads, we are told that we are not law enforcement, but, we are involved in traffic control & our main job is first, the public safety & 2nd to protect the cargo, if a load is 16 feet wide or more, the Highway Patrol is required to assist & they get paid very well, they are off duty & are paid overtime

New guy on the forum. Great to see public safety represented! I work for Goochland County Sheriff's Office in central VA. Right now, on leave because of the birth of my first child! So, all the criminals in my county are getting a short break!

Ok, I am way out of my league, but here it goes.....

First and foremost I am a proud military wife of 17 years
Second, I am domesticated Goddess who specializes in child relations and education (Homeschooling mom) with a degree in CPA for our household budget (I run the checkbook)
Last, most recent and just as important to me, I am 6 weeks into my volunteer firefighting (training) for my local station.
Oh yeah, I like beer!

I'll tell you what, that was some d@#% fine CPR. Had that happen before. Kid was 14, had a heart rate of about 20. Every time I stopped, he'd go DFO(dun fell out!). The pulse oximeters and A-lines can tell you you're doing it right, but there's nothing like the patient sitting up and cussing you out!
