Default Ignition switch

The ignition switch in my truck just quit working today, I can still turn the switch but it's like there's nothing there after it passes he ACC position.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem or changed out an ignition switch before?

I have a feeling that the steering wheel is gonna have to be pulled. I'm a little apprehensive about that because I have never pulled a steering wheel with an airbag before.

Not sure if you have to pull the wheel . You may be able to get at the switch by seperating the column covers . If you have to pull the steering wheel , just make sure the battery has been disconnected for at least 15 minutes before tampering with it .

I took off the cover and seen the hex screws, I read that you still needed to pull the wheel to get the ignition lock cylinder to come out.

Did you replace the Ignition lock cylinder that comes with new keys,or just the switch itself?

I'm going to replace it this Friday and see what happens.

I really like this truck, but in the short time I've had it, I put on tires and a new power steering pump plus a tune up, then the switch went bad. The Ignition lock cylinder alone costs $77., then if I cant do it myself, another $85. to have a locksmith install it.

I'm thinking about runnin it on Craigslist for $1000. and cut my losses.

I dunno, I'd keep at it myself, but that's cuz I like to just fix stuff.

Don't be too hard on the old girl, she is 15 yrs old! Tires, tune ups, tie rod ends fuel pumps & other wear items will come up as time & miles go on. If $100 repair makes you want to quit the 15 year old truck, look at a 2010 model.

I was just upset that thing were happening to it one after another, I have repaired it and now I'm happy with the old girl again.

I don't mind putting money into a truck for maintenance or other reasons, I just do not like a money pit. Something that's always tore up or breaking down.

Hopefully she'll be a good one and I 'll start spending money on mods and upgrades instead of replacement parts

Fair enough, but picking up an older vehicle, I'd be expecting to have a few months of fixing bugs from the previous owner(s). Hopefully you're over that part and can get on with the modding too!
