Default Ideas for hauling skis/snowboards?

I just got my 1500 Sunday and am already looking at what I need for this winter's snowboarding season.

My question is how do you guys haul your boards & skis? I know I could just throw the board into a bag and toss it in the back, but that doesn't seem as fun. I don't like the roof rack look either.

I'm thinking of building a wooden rack for the bed and covering it with bed liner to seal the wood. Then padding the standing frame so that it doesn't scratch any wax while driving.

Any other ideas?

I dunno, thought the point of a truck bed was to put things into it!

I don't disagree.. but you don't your boards sliding all over the bed of the truck, especially once I get a liner. That would tear up the wax job. Thus something has to keep them in a good place..

Ah! now that's a different matter altogether. Have you thought about a car roof rack mounted in the bed (think VW golf sized). I saw it last year headed up to fernie and thought it was interesting; the boards were just strapped to it like normal (bindings down) and had enough clearance to get the board low in the bed but keep it secure from sliding around. Wish i'd taken pictures now...

Hmmm that's not a bad idea either. I've seen trucks with roof ski racks and think it looks retarded. I'll look into how hard it would be to mount a roof rack inside the bed. But like I said, if all else fails I may just build one and see how that works. I just wasn't sure what others had seen..
