Default Overdrive on or off

I was coming home from my vo-tech (I was helping out there) and i want to see what overdrive did and when i was on the highway i pressed it. My truck really started to pick up speed and i like that so my question is.

Is it ok to drive with the overdrive on for normal use when i drive?

Thats the way I drive my truck . The only time I turn off the overdrive is if I'm towing something .

overdrive is meant to be used when driving normally.

Its a higher gear so that, at cruise, your engine RPMs drop so your not sucking fuel down like a drunken gorilla.
Turning it off is just for those times you need higher end power (towing, or passing)

Otherwise, you push the pedal to the floor, and it'll shift out itself...or, you can just push the button to disengage it.

But...most importantly...
NEVER TOW WITH THE OVERDRIVE ON!!! Besides that...leave it in

Correct, do not tow with OD on.

However, OD is essentially useless for me seeing as I am in constant stop and go traffic, unless its after 8pm or before 8am.

Also (even though this is more towards a different driving style) Transmissions have been ruined that are used by law enforcement, crown vics, impalas, tahoes etc. All due to the OD feature, when it was disabled, the transmissions stopped breaking.

Granted... heavy accelerations and stop-and-go is a typical thing for a police officer.

The majority of cars on the road "default" to having the overdrive on when you start the car. When you push the button and the light comes on it is letting you know that you have turned overdrive OFF. Overdrive does some electrical adjusting with your torque converter and drive shaft and your flux capacitor and to maximize fuel economy (ok maybe not with the flux capacitor haha) it just puts your truck it the best gear to get optimal fuel economy for your speed. Your truck probably sped up because you actually turned overdrive off and it was trying to find the right gear to continue the speed you where going and it started at one that was too low. It just dropped down a gear until the transmission up-shifted to a gear where you could maintain your speed at a reasonable rpm.

Flux capacitor will be an option on the Fifth gens but you won't get the full performance until you get a programmer to remove the TM.

So happy that the Ram will finally get flux capacitors! I have been waiting forever! LOL! Love the reference by the way, nostalgia win.
