Question Help advise : spotting on windshield

Its been raining steady for the last few days and I noticed the windshield is spotting . Ive tried everything in my work shop from lacquer thinner to body prep to remove what appears to be some coating or film on the windshield that when wet makes it appear blurred . Any ideas , has anyone else had this problem ?

I've noticed the same thing, but didn't interpret it as a film pealing off. Instead of trying to clean of whatever it is (I don't think there is anything) you might try going the other way. What about a coat of rain-x or some other glass treatment to repel the water? I've been thinking about trying this myself.

haven't noticed that- put Rain-X on the windshield almost immediately after I got the truck. The stuff is fantastic- it's even worthwhile to do on the side windows.

I've had the same problem on several windshields + we all know how cruddy they get outside the wiper sweep area over a winter. I went to my local glass shop and the have a light abrasive paste they use to polish grit and imbedded crap outta the glass. Works great!

I bought some and use it each Spring to clean the glass. Then it's on with the Rain-X and I'm good to go.

A light abrasive paste? Man I get sandblasted almost every day down here it seems, I wonder would something like that work on my windshield as well? It works for all those tiny little pock marks caused by sand/small rocks? It only really bothers me when the light is shining through the glass when I am driving into the sun, and I thought just the other day that looks like crap.

Yes you are correct , I went back to my shop and used Mothers cleaning compound prep paste on a foam pad , with a Porter Cable random orbital sander and managed to remove the crud.
I have a theory, when the vehicles leave the factory in transit they put a plastic tack sheet on the glass for protect it and I think it is the residue left after it is removed . Since that I have noticed it is on all the glass windows .
Anyway you need to remove mechanically not chemically( dose that make sense?)

Very interesting, thanks for the info ^^^^. Will have to try that myself, and yeah, you made sense, mechanically = elbow grease whereas chemically = let the cleaner do the work!
