Unhappy Not sure what to do

I thought id ask you all what you would do. I have a chrome front bumper on my 03 ram. Its the last of chrome. Because of expense would you paint it? or get a front bumper cover ? Not sure how paint would hold up over the chrome?

Chrome usually get's removed before you paint it, bones. Painting directly over chrome won't hold up.

Yeah the paint would not hold up on it, you would have to grind the hell out of it, and then sand it etc...And the bumper cover would not look right IMO...

Wonder if you could send it out to a rechromer and have them take care of prepping it (stripping or acid etching it for ya ) for paint .

You have to remove the chrome before painting, else the paintwill just flake off as the chrome does underneath. Sandblasting or grinding it off would be best, then smoothing it for prime and paint. You could look at maybe getting a bumper overlay like the ones from Street Scenes or Xenon. For the same price as preping you can buy an overlay then get painted with no worries about the finish underneath.

Default Paint over chrome

I realize you cant paint over chrome. Cost of removing the chrome properly and sanding/painting VS Putting on a aftermarket bumpercover with a spoiler incorperated in it.I seen one on a corp.site here on the forum for i think $249 u.s DOLLARS.CARid i think.

Sounds like a good price . You would probably have that in getting your bumper ready and painted .

theres only two kinds of acid really used at pools....muriatic and cyanuric. you'd wanna use muriatic cuz thats the stuff that burns anything it touches. I wouldn't necessarily recommend using it for removing the chrome on your bumper unless you can find a way to make sure it doesnt touch the plastic...maybe dip a cloth in it? but I'm not real sure.

it really burns tho if you get it on you so if you do try have ALOT of water nearby
