Default Painting Grill

I've recently aquired a '98 Dodge Ram 1500 and am looking at sprucing up the exterior a bit. I am wondering if it is possible or if anyone has removed the front grill and repainted the chrome surround? My truck is black and I hate chrome so I'm slowly trying to black everything out. If it isn't possible to repaint properly, could you point me in the direction of some black grill options. Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't recommend trying to paint the chrome, if/when the chrome starts to flake it will peel the paint off too. Try LMC or other such restoration sites, they supply most all parts and should have either a painted or raw grille, which I would recommend sinstead of trying to fool around with the chrome.

I agree with that The price of a new grille shouldnt be to much. Fooling around with the chrome Eh! I hear you. All i got left is my front bumper...the last of the chrome on my truck. Good luck.

Thanks for the heads up on LMC. I just found a new grill, ready for paint for $79. I figured it would be an insane amount of money for a new grille which is why I wanted to paint the existing, but for 79 bucks its a no brainer. One question about the part numbers. Would I be able to order these from my local dodge dealer? The only reason I ask is because my father in law is a parts manager for dodge. Thanks again.

I like that one on ebay but sometimes I worry about the fitment on stuff from ebay. I know with bike plastics, usually the cheap stuff made in china never seems to fit like OEM. Worth a try I guess.

My buddy had his stock grille from his rumble bee powder coated black, looks great and is holding up to the road debris. Another friend of mine had his plastic outer piece painted but they used the flex agent like you would on fender flares. Sanded of course. Both look great and have held good.
