I'm looking for the price of long bonds to have the bottom fall out of them when China decides it's no longer prudent to purchase our debt.

I hate to think of the forest gone and a strip mine there.....

Its crazy we need a new guvmint from local to state and federal, but Im afraid its too late,
or will be in the near future,
And I wouldnt doubt that our elected officials used our national forests as collateral and it doesnt suprise me its the chinese.
Many years ago and Im sure yall remember out west in the old growth forests, public lands by the way, American companies were not allowed to harvest the timber because of the Spotted owl and its habitat, well my uncle was a heavy equipment operator and was working out there, Well his company folded because of that..
Guess what our guvmint did, they let the japanese come in and log the timber and they hauled it out to ships that had saw mills on them where they processed the timber and sold it right back to us,
I still dont think this country will ever recover and soon we are gonna be "owned " by someone else......
but the jackasses in corporate America and the guvmint will be off scot free and living the high life and patting each other on the backs for doing such a great job

and ya know what else kills me is that our guvmint will loan Indians money to come here and start a business with little or no interest and forever to repay the loan, around here they own all the hotels/ motels all the liqour stores and about 90% of the gas stations,
let an average American try to get a loan for something like that and theres a good chance they`ll get denied the loan unless they have minority status or some other special consideration.. GRRRRRRRRRR Im ready for the next civil war lol

I work for USG . Our plant has laid off about one hundred people so far . I have made it through two rounds of layoffs . Things are continually getting slower and slower . We have two board production lines . One was shutdown last Dec '08 . Probably won't be fired back up for another couple years . The other line has been knocked back to running no more than two days a week . And every third week of the month gets shutdown for the whole week . Yeah tell me it's getting better .

While on the one hand I agree the government got us into a good part of this whole mess, I still wonder what a lot of other people were thinking, perhaps they weren't thinking at all should be more the point...I know that hedge funds, futures, options, etc. have been around a considerably long time. However, I would have about the same luck at the casino.

To me, ANY security, that is not an asset backed security, holds about as little value as the paper it is printed on, next to nothing, and should also be viewed as a toxic asset, because eventually, someone is going to have to make good on it.

In my view, the only way out of this is to return to the free market economy we used to be, in which case, supply and demand is what needs to determine fair market value for products and services, NOT speculation. Makes no sense for me to bet on futures when I am not even guaranteed to wake up tomorrow, much less ten years from now. There is no way to adequately predict what the availability of any one product will be in that amount of time, much less determine how many people will want to buy it or how much they will be willing to pay for it.....

Didn't we learn any of this last year when the price of fuel was $5 a gallon??? How much of that price was OPEC, how much was just oil companies and the govt. ripping us off at the pump, but how much was SPECULATION, which only created fear, fear that in no time at all, oil supplies were going to dry up, which created a panic, which, in turn, helped to drive prices up. Anyone noticing a pattern yet? Just as bull/bear markets are cyclical, speculation and futures, options, etc. also create a cyclical downward spiral with drastic effects, which will continue until the market is allowed to regulate itself....

I dont know a thing about securities and stocks and such, but I went to the unemployment office this morning and there were no less than 300 people in there, and over half were first time filers like me....
I probably wont get benefits because the lady said I missed an appointment last week, I asked her how the hell could I have had an appointment when I have never even been in the office nor even talked to them on the phone,Her reply was well thats what it says on the computer and we all know computers are never wrong

Well yall I have been up most all night looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, aint seeing it, Its now time to get rid of some of the few luxuries, and unfortunately internet is something I dont need,

That sucks man, I wish you the best of luck. I work for a very large govt contractor and was fortunate to land this job after being laid off for a few months almost two years ago. I come to work every day and see so many friggin people that are so lazy and get away with doing crap work and still bitch about whatever they can. I have friends and family that are struggling to make it, having their pay or hours cut. Yet I work around so many people that take their jobs for granted, abuse their benefits and co-workers. It kills me to think for every worthless person I work around there are probably 20 people out there that would do that job happily and be better at it. These people are as close to govt. employees as it gets without actually being one and in my opinion are not being productive members to society. They are taking advantage every day and not giving anything back to the country. TAKE TAKE TAKE AND NO GIVE. Im not sure how much longer I can last here, I guess im too honest or too hard working or something. Then again where else will I go and what will I do and have the job security that I have now.

The United States Army.
Guaranteed paycheck every 16 days.
3 Meals a Day.
A free bed to sleep in, and a roof to sleep under.

Job Security at its finest.

You also having 'Civilian Security' contractors working here in the middle-east making close to $300k for 12 months. Doing everything from laying Fiber-Optics to escorting around a few high-ranking U.S. officials. I'll get the brochure listing companies here that are looking to hire people with different skill sets and post it for you guys to take a look at.
