Default Blown oil line?

Only 6000k and already broke down. On my way home, less than a mile from work, my oil light started to flicker. I pulled over immediately amd just as I came to a stop the oil light turned on solid. I turned of the engine, popped the hood and hopped out, and then smelled burnt oil. When I popped the hood it looked like something exploded. There was oil everywhere. All over the mat built into the hood, covering everything the the engine compartment (that I just cleaned spottless two days ago), and covering everything from the pumps, to the fan shroud, to the battery, etc. I litterally had oil running out from under the edge of the grill and dripping down the sides of the truck.

Chrysler says everything will be covered. The dealership is closed for the weekend, but they are paying to have the truck stored till monday, towed 50 miles, and the repair (should be) is under warrenty.

Off course I had no ride home (30 miles) since the tow truck isen't going up till Monday. Luckily I phoned a nearby friend and he was willing to take me the 60 miles round trip, and may even do it again to take me home from work tomorrow.

I just had the oil changed less than a week ago, but the oil filler cap wasen't loose at all (I checked it right after the oil change and again today after the incident). Obviously something top side of the engine blew or I wouldn't have oil in all the places I did. It was dark so I couldn't see too well, but I'm not happy to say the least.

In any case, any moral support is welcome. Any ideas what this could be. The last Chrysler I had I hated, but so far I love this truck.

Wish me luck all,

Matt

Wow sorry to hear of this wild episode . Your lucky the oil didn't hit the exhaust and go up in flames . Wouldn't of been good at all .

Yeah ... that would have sucked. I was quick though, the tow truck asked if I heard any funny noised or is the engine seized before I got over. I was off the road and shut down in probably 15 seconds from when the light went off. I was still on surface streets with a good wide shoulder (basicly pulled up on the sidewalk). I guess in that respect I was lucky.

Motor is probably ok . Sounds like you did an excellent job getting it shut down . Just make sure you tell the tow truck driver not to start it . Some of those guys aren't the brightest stars in the sky .

I told him, and he seemed to know anyhow. He said I was lucky it didn't seize. I don't think luck had anything to do with it. My last car got killed when it blew a water line and I tried to drive it off the bridge I was crossing and cracked the block. I didn't take any chances this time.

Bummer, Matt. Sometimes defecation occurs. They'll either fix it or replace it.

I'd ask them to extend your engine warranty regardless of whether they fix or replace the engine.

2009 Ram = Lifetime Engine, Drivetrain, and Transmission as long as the oil change place didn't screw ya by doing something stupid.
Since you said the dealer told you that everything would be covered I'm hoping they did the oil change. Yes????

Sorry to hear about that, man, what a real bummer, but as has been mentioned, glad you got it shut down in time! My question, too, is where did you get the oil changed? Only reason I ask.....previous bad experience myself....

Took my '07 Compass to have the oil changed, and at this particular dealership, they have a Jeep side and a Chevy side. The Jeep side being relatively new at the time, they were not set up yet to do oil changes, and me being short on time, and not too fond of the 10 minute shops, allowed the Chevy guys to do it. Don't know what part of 4.5 qt. oil change they didn't understand, but they overfilled it.

When I say I got lucky, I got lucky. I actually raced the car a couple days later, without knowing about the overfill condition. Go to check the oil next day, and, same as you, oil everywhere! We drained almost a quart of oil out of it! On that car, though, the dipstick was designed to pop up to relieve excess pressure to keep from blowing seals, so long story short, I'm wondering if you might not have a similar situation? Don't know if the CCV vs. PCV had anything to do with mine or not, but good luck and be sure to keep us posted! Moral of the story: change your own oil, and if you can't/don't, CHECK it before you leave!
