Default 2006 vibration 55mph

Hi guys just joined the form and am trying to get an answer to my 1500 quad 4x4 hemi vibration at 55mph. I have put up with this for some time and cannot seem to get it fixed. New tires new brakes new rotor in the last year. a bunch of new front end parts no luck. The only thing I did was put a leveling kit on this truck are theses things causing a vibration on the 2006? I put new tires on at the same time as the kit so I thought it was the tires well it isn't tires any ideas?

What shakes , the whole truck , the steering wheel , ......? Does it shake when just driving or when braking ? Does it come and go ? Does it shake wosre when accelerating or decelerating ? This kind of problem is hard to diagnose over the net . Will see what I can do to help ya . Let me know . Tom

I would try taking the leveling kit back off and see if it goes away.

Do you have a 2 or 2-1/2" leveling kit? I have heard that the 2-1/2" will cause vibration and/or front end wobble. I have a 2" kit and never had any of those problems. I only had alignment probs. JMO.

You know I wish I could tell you, the wheel is pretty good not much shake at all. I set a coffee in the cup holder and at 55mph it is getting stirred pretty good. It seems to me it is the whole truck and it does it anywhere between 50 and 60 then clears up for the most part. If I jam it in neutral it stills shakes.I hate to pull the leveling kit but I guess I will have to to clear this up. That only puts me about $550.00 in the hole 200 to put it in 200 to take it out 50 for alignment and 100 for the kit. I am real pleased.

Not sure your problem is with the kit . I thought it could be a u-joint , but not sure on that now . Don't have a front or rear brake hanging up ? Bent axle or rim ? Out of round tire ? Bad motor or transmission mount could cause an odd vibration . Well theres some ideas . Like I said , really hard to put a finger on it over the net . I can only assume that whoever did the front end work , checked it out thoroughly and correctly . Same with the new brakes and tires . Just for ha ha's your not in the Maryland area are ya .

Hey rake1, I was having a similar "sounding" vibration. Same speeds, had a guy put it on a rack to check my ujoints and rear diff. Rear diff. looked good and u-joints were fine. He did however see a small bald spot were a weight had fallen off of the drive shaft. Having it balanced today, ill let you know how it turns out. Might be worth looking into on yours as it costs nothing to find and im paying $140us to remove rebalance and replace. $60us if I brought it in by itself. But how pissed would you be to spend that kind of coin removing you kit only to find out you had a 140 dollar problem. Only 3 more hours till I go get her back

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 02-001-07, DATED JANUARY 20, 2007, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS** AND INCLUDE A CHANGE TO A LABOR OPERATION NUMBER.

Models: 2006 - 2007 (DR) Ram Truck (1500)

NOTE: This bulletin applies to 4x2 and 4x4 light duty (1500 model) vehicles built on or before November 27, 2006 (MDH 1127XX).

Overview:
This bulletin involves identifying the type of vehicle drift that may be present and implementing the appropriate repair procedures for the type of vehicle drift

Symptom/Condition:
The customer when braking may experience a vehicle drift to one side and/or a vehicle body shudder. This condition may be more noticeable when brakes are applied at speeds of 88 km/h (55 mph). The vehicle body shudder may exhibit itself as: steering wheel shake, brake pedal pulsation, or seat or floor vibration.

Diagnosis:


Verify that all four (4) vehicle road tires are in good condition

Verify that the tire pressure in all four (4) vehicle road tires are set to 241 Kpa (35 psi).

Road test the vehicle in a safe environment on a flat and level road at a highway speed of approximately 88 km/h (55 mph).

Without applying the vehicle brakes. Does the vehicle exhibit a drift to the left, right, or both sides on a flat and level road? Record the direction of vehicle drift.
a. If YES > then perform the section of the Repair Procedure for "Front Tire Cross-Switch and Front End Alignment".
b. If NO > then proceed to the next step.

Apply the vehicle brakes. On a flat and level road, does the vehicle exhibit a shudder or drift to the left, right, or both sides that is different than when the vehicle brakes are not applied? Evaluate the vehicle when braking several times (during deceleration, at the end of a stop, or during light, moderate, or hard stops).
a. If YES > then perform the section of the Repair Procedure for "Front Lower Control Arm Bushings Replacement".
b. If NO > then this bulletin does not apply

Repair Procedure: A. Front Tire Cross-Switch and Front End Alignment
1. Cross-switch the front tire and wheel assemblies (left front to right front, and right front to left front).
2. With the front tire and wheel assemblies removed, inspect the front brakes for problems (i.e. grease, dragging brake pads, etc.) that may cause a drift condition.
3. Verify that the front suspension components are in good condition.
4. Align the vehicle front end to the following specifications:

FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATION
LEFT RIGHT CROSS (Lt - Rt)
CASTER 3.50 0.50 3.90 0.50 - 0.40 0.20
CAMBER 0.10 0.50 - 0.10 0.50 0.20 0.20
SUM (Lt + Rt)
TOE (toe-in) 0.18 0.18 0.36
NOTE: Follow the above alignment specification. Pay particular attention to large differences in: left to right caster and left to right toe readings.
5. Road test the vehicle to verify that the condition has been corrected.
B. Front Lower Control Arm Bushings Replacement:
1. Replace the left and right side front lower control arm bushings. Refer to
TechCONNECT for detailed repair procedures: select the SERVICE INFO tab > 2 -
SUSPENSION > FRONT > BUSHINGS > REMOVAL and INSTALLATION.
NOTE: For the front lower control arm, the front (leading) bushing is different from the rear (trailing) bushing. Take care to install the correct bushing.
2. Verify that the front suspension components are in good condition.
3. Align the vehicle front end to the following specification:
FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATION
LEFT RIGHT CROSS (Lt - Rt)
CASTER 3.50 0.50 3.90 0.50 - 0.40 0.20
CAMBER 0.10 0.50 - 0.10 0.50 0.20 0.20
SUM (Lt + Rt)
TOE (toe-in) 0.18 0.18 0.36

Hey mlowney, thats some great info. you dug up. A recap on my vibration, the rebalancing took care of the problem. I wrote more in detail about the experiance in the thread driveshaft weight fell off. I would say start the process of elimination with the cheapest possible fix and continue on from there. Good luck
