Arrow 2009 Ram warranty -Public Service WARNING

I don't really know where to put this , so I'll leave it to the mods to move it .

I ended up on this site countless time when I was researching , before buying my Ram . So I thought I'd post an important bit of information I found , in the hope of sparing someone else some heart ache .

The 2009 Ram has a unique warranty quirk that most don't know about . Not sure if other 2009 Dodge models have the same quirk , as I was looking for Rams only when I discovered it .

In 2009 as the economy tanked as a marketing ploy Ram changed the warranty from the usual 3 year / 36,000 bumper to bumper and 5 year / 100,000 mile power train to a 3 year / 36,000 bumper to bumper and Lifetime power train warranty .

There are two problems with this .

1) Some dealers didn't notify buyers . So someone who would trade in for a new vehicle just to stay in a vehicle with warranty coverage , will be trading in vehicles when they don't need to .

2) The only part of the warranty that is transferable is the 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper . Once the vehicle is sold from dealer stock the lifetime warranty is good for the original buyer ONLY . Even if they trade it back in a week later , there will be NO power train warranty , to a second buyer . And you CAN'T buy a Chrysler extended warranty for these vehicles .

I came across several dealers that told me the warranty would revert to the 5 year / 100,000 mile power train warranty , or they would say you get the balance of the factory warranties however Chrysler says that is not true at all , only the 3 year / 36,000 mile bumper to bumper transfers .

If your not sure about your Ram the Ram Care Team @ 866-726-4636 can answer any questions you may have all they need is the vehicle VIN#

Good info
I just wish they had continued that lifetime powertrain to 2010.

WOW, I didn't know this, I bought my truck secondhand and when I purchased it I bought an extended warranty through the dealership that I purchased it from, not the actualy Dodge dealership. Great info, I had no idea, and too bad it doesn't carry over.

Unforunately I found this out the hard way. Luckily I bought the extended warranty from the dealership but it wasnt a dodge dealer and they're giving me a hard time about certain things. They love to say "oh, thats normal for a Dodge. nothing wrong with it".

They're still offering the Lifetime warranty, I got it on my 2012. But ya, it's only for as long as the truck is in my name.. So I plan on giving it to the boy when he's old enough and he can run it all the way through college

I got VERY very lucky...

The dealer was fantastic. In november 2010, I paid $21,000 After tax/title/tags for my truck. I traded in my 2006 Civic EX-L, and got 15k for trade. I financed 6k at 4%, and wrote a check for the loan about 6 months later. The miles that were on it were the kicker. Nobody wanted a 2009 (a year old at the time) with 43000 miles, vehicle history and previous owner interview (previous owner works at dealer) revealed all hwy miles. 100,000 miles (starting at 43,000 miles) of "Factory Type New-Vehicle warranty" (143,000 miles total), and in checking with the local Ram dealer before I bought, since the vehicle was sold to a used car lot and driven on a dealer plate, it was never registered or titled. As such, from a legal standpoint, it was still new, so my Lifetime Powertrain Warranty was intact. I have the lifetime powertrain warranty in writing from that dealer. I have not had to use it yet, but my local dealer now (moved across the country) has told me several times they would honor it.

Bikenut - Did you purchase the Chrysler maximum care with your truck ? Or did they give you the lifetime warranty in place of the standard factory warranty ? I purchased a Chrysler liif time maximum care with my truck also . But the original warranty is still there as well .
I bought my truck used with 32,000 miles on it . But while searching I ran across alot of 2009 that Dodge dealers were telling me still had factory warranties on them , which I found was NOT true .
If not for the outstanding service from the Ram Care team I would never have known about the 2009 warranty issues . As one of the most important things to me was to be able to get a lifetime warranty with my truck , as I plan on many years with her .

When i bought my 2009 in February 2009

Window sticker reads:
3 year/36,000 mile Basic Limited Warranty
3 year/36,000 24 hour towing assistance
Lifetime Powertrain Limited Warranty

When i was in the Financing Department, the Finance Officer told me that i had to buy a Warranty, i said that there was already a Warranty, i was told it was just the way it is done when a new vehicle is purchased, (he did not answer any question directly),
He then said that i could get a 5 year, 7 year, 10 year or Lifetime Basic or Maximum Care Warranty.
I ask him to explain it to me, he began typing & he said that i needed make up my mind now, i asked again to explain & i would not have the truck for 10 years. He began typing, still not explaining anything at all. & that he already signed me up for the 7 year BASIC Care. I was irritated to say the least, i never got any explanation, & i had just got something that i didn't ask for. I found out 34,000 miles later... when i turned in the Extended Warranty & bought the Lifetime Max Care Warranty

Anyway there is also the rust, paint, & smog warranties that they don't bother mentioning

Another thing that they don't mention, a used vehicle under certain conditions, can get some of the original warranties restored. I don't know who you would need to talk to, to get the ball rolling, If all servicing was done at a Dodge dealership, a Complete Inspection can be done & the vehicle is then Certified. At this point the vehicle is considered to have less then 3 years/36,000 miles & you can buy the warranties that were available to the original owner.
I either read that at the Chrysler Warranty website or maybe it was Edmonds site

My Lifetime Max warranty starts AFTER the standard 3/36 -which makes sense. They even explained that If I were to sell the truck, total it out or whatever within the 3/36, I can get a full refund of the Lifetime warranty.
