Default Need to say Hello and I gots a little problem need advice or opinions

First I wanna say I'm fairly new to the Dodge experience I am a converted Ford Lover well I still love em but I just love the shape of the Rams.So a big hello to all. OK so I basically just got this 96 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 extended Cab Long Box and when I picked it up it was great but the next morning when I started it it was smoking from the tailpipe so I figured hmmm, that cant be good. It only smokes for five or ten minutes havent actually timed it but its in that window. It has not dropped even a mm on the oil dipstick and the Rad fluid is pretty and green, also has not dropped at all. Any ideas. From doing a bit of searching on the WWW it sounds like Valve seal (Seals),

Wanna add it runs like a top no engine noise

Well hello and welcome to RamForumZ, since I see this is your first post, great to have you here, and congrats on your truck! Glad you found some love for the Ram's, they're great trucks! Got any pics you can share? Any mods done to it?

Regarding the smoke, had the truck been sitting for awhile before you bought it, and maybe just needs some carbs blown out? What color is the smoke? If you fill out the info in your User CP, it will show in all your posts and help other members in answering your questions. Got lots of great people and info here to help, so I look forward to seeing you around and hope you enjoy the board! When you get a moment, stop by the Newbie Checkin and introduce yourself so the whole crew can welcome you!

No problem, man, we're all here to help! Was just wondering because I had one sit for a little too long, and I really had to work to get it started, then had to put my foot into it and just blow all that smoke out, haha, but good luck. As far as pics, here is a link to a better explanation than I can give (I know how to do it, just don't explain it all that well ) :http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread....223#post102223, check out BlueJet's reply, instructions are easy!

Hope that helps, any other questions, ask away!

Nice looking truck, thanks for sharing the pic! Besides getting the smoke issue resolved, what do you have in mind for it? Pretty mods? Performance mods? Mods that sound good coming through speakers? Do tell!

Welcome to the Z! *whispers* It's ok to be a ford guy on here, I have one too. *manly voice* Fords are for whimps! good change....

So, a few questions about the smoke problem. Which engine do you have first of all? And was it whispy white or a dark black smoke? If it's black, it's burning oil/sludge somehow, if it's white, you have have a whole lot of condensation in the muffler that needs to be cooked out every morning which means you've probably got water in your gas. How far does it get driven everyday and have you filled the tank yet? I'd add some methanol (water remover) to your first tank along with some injector cleaner.

Now onto the fun part, what mods are you looking to do to the beast? Is it gonna be a hauler, mud truck, or a daily driver?

My bud is a wrencher at the local Dodge dealership and he figures that its the Paper gasket that was sucked into the plenum if I recall exactly what he said. He also said there is a TSB about the paper gasket and that there is a beter gasket as a replacement. He told me how to check to see if the gasket is poopooed and see if there is oil in there. But I really am thinking its the fuel too, so Im gonna fill the tank with some hi test tomorrow and add a little methanol and see what we get, any Idea how much methanol to add? And thanx for the input. I love this truck it's my first Dodge and I'm already attached. I am definitily raising her up and going with some big tires, and a new box which I have a line on then comes the paint Black shes definitely going black and I'm getting a bud to do a huge Ram graphic (airbrushed on the Hood) as soon as he has the time and the paints dry. Sterep Is a DVD JVC Exad KD-AVX2 and amps will be 2 Alpine V12's and have a nice set of Hertz subs. Speakers I havent picked up yet but they'll be nice.

Welcome to the site.

I'd be willing to bet it's the "belly pan" gasket, ( Intake gasket )

The easiest way to check it is, pull the air cleaner off the throttle body, if the butterflies are oily that's your problem.
