For $20 a year you can get 'dealer' pricing which is pretty reasonable actually. The samples come with a pre-addressed envelope and everything. Just sample and send.

Do you have experience with a diesel-specific synthetic Amsoil? I was wondering if you can extend the oil change period beyond the recommended 7500 miles as noted in the owner's manual.

I have a 2006 with the 5.9 liter Cummins engine. My first diesel. I have not seen oil as black as what came out of the pan when I did my first oil change - compared to all the gasoline engines I've owned.

FYI - I am currently using the premium Cummins oil filter and Chevron Delo 15W-40 oil in Phoenix, AZ. No cold weather to contend with.

I run Amsoil in my truck,

I run the 5w-30 100% synthetic

I know it calls for the 5w-20 but i do not trust that oil when i am pulling a trailer for over 12 hours at a time

They make 0w-20 but that just does not sound right!

Hey Rick2006

with your 5.9 or any diesel the oil will be black all the time, you can start with new clean oil started and then check it and you will see that the oil is black already!

Put- i would put some thought in to what oil you are are running! what type of driving do you do?

do you do a lot of towing? Short drives? Highway driving?

Is XL 5W-20 100% synthetic ? Why do I get the impression that the XL series is not quite as good as the 0W-30 Signature Series ?

I'm planing on putting Amzoil in my 2010 Quad Cab 1500.

UB.

How do you know that 0W-30 will mess up the MDS ?

They are both 100% grade IV synthetic, and their only big difference is their weight and viscocity.

because it compressed at a different rate than the 5W-20 and you'd need to put more pressure from the oil pump to compress the fluid, thus MDS wouldn't activate properly, or may slip out if you lose oil pressure possibly causing the valves to open on the wrong cycle and then you'd be pulling vacuum for one cycle, which would cause power loss. The 0W-30 is good for the 5.2L and 5.9L but wouldn't recommend it for the HEMI with MDS. If you had a 2500 without MDS then I'd say go for it.

Excellent ! That's exactly the kind of detailed answer I was hoping for.

Thank you very much.
