I put a set of 8000k HID's that I got off of ebay ( read cheap). Real easy install, just make sure the bulbs are tight in the housing, I had to use the rubber gasket off of the old bulbs. But no problems otherwise. Definitely worthwhile.

HID's are definitely worth the money. The improvement in the light is amazing!

It is technically illegal to put HID bulbs into any headlight housing not designed for them. You need something that can adequatly focus the light so you don't blind other drivers. That said, many people do it and it's becomeing so commonplace that most people probably don't notice anymore.

It you want to do it right you'll have to buy parts and built your own projector since they don't sell any aftermarket HID housings for the Gen. 4 Ram yet.

I don't get it. I had a Navigator and an Infiniti QX56, both came with factory HID'S and were not projector type lights.

Car that come with them stock have housings built to properly focus the light without projectors. Projectors are a solution you can use to make the install of HID's legal in other vehichles. There is actually nothing that indicates that the Ram housings don't do a good enough job focusing HID's but I don't think anyone has tested it officially either. It might be worth looking of the requirements and asking someone here to check and see if the light focuses correctly at the appropriate distance.

Although I have no idea how to interpret it, the applicable law seems to be S7.2 and S7.3 of FMVSS.108.

An excerpt of it read:

Quote:
Unless stated otherwise, a tolerance of |1/4| degree is permitted during photometric performance
tests for any headlamp or beam contributor, and the test points 10U-90U
shall be measured from the normally exposed surface of the lens face.
The term `aiming plane' means `aiming reference plane' or an appropriate
vertical plane defined by the manufacturer as required in S7.7.1.

You can read the full text at:

http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/cfr_20...cfr571.108.htm

Bottom line is, regardless of whom makes them, all headlamps have to comply with these standards.
