Question Nav System Custom POIs?

Howdy,

I'm thinking of buying a new '09 Laramie 4x4. It has the Nav system.

What I would like to know is, is there any way to download custom waypoints or Points Of Interest to the system?

I currently use a Garmin StreetPilot for navigation and I have a bunch of places that I have waypointed and stored on my PC. If I'm going to replace use of my StreetPilot with use of a built-in Nav system, it would be really nice if there is some way to load all my existing waypoints into the system.

Thanks!

- Stuart

Hello Stuart and welcome to RamForumZ since I see this is your first post, great to have you here! Unfortunately I do not have an answer to your question, but we got lots of people here who should, so someone should be along shortly to help you out. In the meantime, stop by the Newbie Checkin and introduce yourself so everyone can welcome you aboard! Good luck with your purchase! Look forward to seeing you around and I hope you enjoy the board! P.S. Used to live right up the road in Thomasville, in fact, I bought my Jeep from Capital Motors on Tennessee St.!

Hey Cajun,

Thanks for the welcome, neighbor. :-)

I don't know yet if I'll "make the purchase" or not. We'll see. The question about the Nav system is minor. The major questions are ones y'all can't answer for me here. It's deciding if I can live with such a big downsizing move by going to the RAM. I have an F350 SuperDuty diesel now. The RAM I'm looking at has a shorter bed and it also has the cargo box management system. I can fit 2 motorcycles in my 350. I'm afraid those toolboxes in the RAM will make it too narrow to fit 2 bikes in there. And I pull a trailer with electric brakes. If I do make the purchase, I will really miss having the integrated brake controller.

But, a lifetime powertrain warranty, combined with all the rebates available right now are *really* tempting!

I don't know about the POI's but the 2010 1500 Rams have integrated brake controller option.

Yeah, I saw that. But I talked to a Dodge dealer today. They (supposedly) checked their computer and can't even actually order a 1500 with the ITBC yet.

That sucks.

I checked on the POI's. Currently there is no way to upload them. You have to enter them all manually

That does suck. I have something like 200 of them.

Thanks for checking!

Should just get stock low end radio and get the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT
This Nav looks sick.. look it up on youtube.
You can upload POI's from a PC or iPhone/iTouch with AVIC FEEDS
http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...oad+AVIC+FEEDS

Next spring I'll be installing this in my 09 with back up camera, sat radio and steering wheel control integration. In the end, it will cost me about the same as the stock NAV with backup camera but a much better unit

I just noticed you can get fuel reports from the Nav when you tell it you've gassed up.
and get GPS coordinates from a geo-tagged picture to a POI and upload. The AVIC FEEDS app is very easy to use. And can use 32GB SD cards to store music. and if needed, have multiple card if your collection is that big.

Thanks, but I've been down that road. Have a mac daddy (seriously!) Alpine/Carver/Rainbow system in my SuperDuty now. Too much hassle to get it done. Too much hassle to keep it working right. I'm looking forward to buying a truck that has a stock radio that sounds decent, includes nav, steering wheel controls, Handsfree BT, satellite radio, and iPod integration. When I get that, no more screwing around with aftermarket stereos for me.
