Default FSC Smokes

I'm not a chain smoker, or have to smoke everyday, but I enjoy having a few smokes here and there. Here in Michigan they just passed the law to sell "Fire Safe Cigarettes" and they suck!! I heard that they already passed them in many other states and soon to be mandatory in the U.S. To other smokers, what are your opinions on them? Are they going to start this on cigars too?

Just had to get that off my chest. On a side note I thought this smiley was funny.

What the hell is a "fire safe cigarette?" They go out after not being sucked on for a bit? And what do they have to put into the tobacco to make it do this? Can only imagine it's bad for you... not that smoking is good for you anyway. I really can't stand how north america has become so anal about smoking, especially since I grew up with friends who owned a tobacco farm in Zimbabwe, it really chaps my ass.

yeah, they passed that law in Indiana a few months ago. Yeah, they go out if you don't keep puffing on them. They are definitely terrible tasting. I've gotten used to them now, since its all you can get anymore, but when they first switched over, I actually tried to quick smoking.

Yeah they are using carpenter glue on this new paper that puts the cig out if your not constantly smoking it. The taste is off too

Well as a medical student I guess I have a different opinion about smoking than you guys. The health related results of smoking are vast and very expensive. I'm not sure the exact number of billions (with a B) of dollars it costs the medical field every year, but if people wouldn't smoke, the cost of their own health insurance drops (as well as the government). And this is just the economical side of it, I am not going to mention the years it could add to your life and the quality of life it would add to the years you have.
The biggest reason i'm for making it more difficult for smokers to light up is because of the proven second hand affects. It isn't right that I made a conscious decision to not smoke, even if I do enjoy an occasional cigar. Why should I have to breath in your smoke because some rude smoker decided to light up right next to me and blow it right where i'm trying to breath? Or better yet, expose my baby son to smoke because they are too careless or lazy to not light up or walk away before the light up right next to my son. If you want to smoke, that's fine (well for their health I want them to stop), do what you want in your own home, car, or outdoors when no one is around. But at my house, my car, when i'm sitting/standing next to you in a enclosed space, have the common descency to not smoke. I'm not directing this at anyone here, just the careless smokers that blow smoke in my face. And my rant is over.

Oh and I like this smiley

So is that the only cigarettes you can buy up there? They don't sell "regular" smokes anymore? That's interesting, 'cause my oldest daughter lives in Michigan, and besides the crazy price (what do you pay for those, anyways???), she hasn't mentioned this. I figured the price would make me quit before anything else, but they go to that down here, and Camel Snus, here I come, lol! They really aren't that bad, tried those when they were giving them away for free when they first came out.

Bobcat06, you have a good point, too, and it is a decency that is lost on smokers at times, but I, for one, do respect the fact that others choose not to smoke, and should therefore not be subjected to it. However, I don't smoke right in front of the door in a public place, for example, because if I were a non-smoker (which I used to be and very OCD about it), I wouldn't want to walk through someone else's cloud of smoke, so I do see where others are coming from, but that does not give them the right to regulate my life. After all, I will not be the one who turns around and sues the tobacco companies if I suffer smoking related problems later in life, simply because I can't say I was ignorant, I know how to read, and the warnings are everywhere. Bottom line, it's like trying to regulate any substance, and people will find a way around it and do it anyway. Simple psychology, the more you tell me I can't do something, the more I will find a way TO do it. Just my .02.

CajunDodge, Louisiana has mandated FSC cigarettes since July. I protested them at first, running to Miss. to buy my smokes, but in the beginning of 2010 Miss. will be mandating them as well so I just bit the bullet and got used to them. The last time I bought my beloved Camel Lights, only soft packs were available. I noticed on the carton that there was no FSC markings and went ahead and bought another carton. Those are long gone now and I am back to the FSC trash. I dont know what kind of smokes you like CD, but Marlboros have the FSC marking right above the UPC code, everyone else has them on the bottom of the pack near the tax stamp. If none of your packs say FSC, let me know what kind you smoke and where you buy them LOL.

Well, we don't have this problem in canada...yet. BC will be the first I bet, then we'll all get coralled into this. As to what I smoke; I actually quit a few years after I moved to north america, they just aren't the same since I'm used to cheroots right out of the kiln... talk about a kick in the nuts when hyou light up. I only smoke the occasional cigar when I REALLY need something now. I can imagine the uproar trying to get these in here will cause with the oil industry being the highest consumer and highest income for our province.

And Bobcat, all I can say is if having a smoke is the only thing stopping your frustration from boiling over and drilling your boss/co-workers with a 30lb SCBA tank and throwing their unconcious body into a hydro-cracker... then I'll take the shortened lifespan and I bet he would too. Not starting an argument, just saying I know when I need a smoke for my OWN good.

Well bigdaddyII, if I don't feel like the biggest friggin' idiot! Just dug my pack outta my pocket and lo and behold, you're right (not that I didn't believe ya', just had not heard of this and I consider myself to be pretty "in the loop" on changes in laws and whatnot)!

Unfortunately, I haven't bought my beloved Camel Lights in sooooooo long, I don't even remember what they taste like, lol! I hadn't noticed any change in taste, only that they weren't very patient, 'cause if I walk away for a minute, gotta re-light, which I just figured beyond being a bit of a nuisance, no big deal! What a crock! I am NOT stupid enough to light a smoke and then fall asleep, or some of the other stupid things other smokers do. The only good thing I can see, is at least if it does go out and I have to re-light it, for as expensive as they are these days, there's less waste, for it all having burned away, so guess the glass is still half full, lol! However, I would like to read the legislation on this matter, and see what exactly it was that provoked this latest installment of governmental nonsense!

Cd, you got a point on that as well, for the oil industry here, also, is a big consumer of tobacco products as well, and on your other point, about drilling the boss, let's just say there are plenty of folks out there who would not like me very much if I didn't get my little "break" every now and again, for MY own good, likewise. They'd like me about as much then as if I didn't have my coffee, lol!
