Default Mcgaughys 2/4 drop

I just picked up an 04 ram quad cab 2wd. I thought I wanted a 4/6 drop, but the truck has brand new factory sized tires on the 20" wheels, and I'm not feeling getting rid of those and buying new. So I thought I'd try out the 2/4 drop and see how I liked it, what's the largest tire that will fit with this lift? Will the factorys fit? Also I found the kit for $360, does that sound right?

If you're looking for their basic 2/4 drop kit then you can find it for 330 at stylintruck.com but you might think about their delux kit which uses spindles as opposed to just a lowering coil which is $550.

I'm getting a 2/4 on my 4x4 and will be fitting 275/45R22s so 32" tires will fit with a 2/4 drop.

Stock tires will fit no problem with a 2/4 drop. Here's an old pic of my truck with a 2/4 and the stock 20's.

Thanks a lot guys! I just looked again to confirm, and my tires are 275/45/R20. So it should be a problem. I never lowered a truck before, never owned a 2WD, so I'm new to this whole lower thing, what's the adavntage of spindles over coils? I can kind of see where just dropping it on coils, or cutting your coils, may hinder your ride a bit by changing your geometry correct? How much will ride quality suffer with a lowering kit anyway?

You don't lose much ride quality, unless you switch to low-pro tires which have a lot less shock absorbtion than stock tires. The benefit of spindles over coils is that they raise the tire's location without touching the stock shocks/coils thus keeping your stock ride and steering geometry on the front end. McGaughy's spindles are the same size as stock so no issues with the extreme ball joint angles which would cause them to crack and break.

You can run a 4/6 drop if you have 275/45/20's. That's only a 30 inch tall tire compared to 33" for the stockers.

Change out the stock shocks when you drop it and you'll be amazed at how much better it rides than stock. Belltech Nitro Drop 2's or their Street Perfomance shocks will greatly improve ride over stock.

I thought I'd have rubbing issues with the 4/6 and 275's. Anyways, the plan Is just a quick street truck with a stance that shows it and improves handling. I'm not doing anything exterior wise other than wheels, hopefully some smoked SRT 22's. So I'm thinking the 2/4 drop will work better for what I want to do, and I can keep a little more tire on my truck. I'm open to any thoughts and suggestions on this, opinions?

If you're going to do SRT wheels, you'll definitely be better off with a 2/4. The SRT wheels are 10" wide and don't really have enough offset for a 4/6 drop (but it has been done before, it just takes a lot of work).

My trucks OEM set up was 30" tall.... thats why I stayed 30".... just food for thought.
