Default Steering while off road

Took a trip up a rough gravel road and felt the steering was a little loose when going over larger rocks (baseball sized) and when a little side to side action occured I could hear a type of clanging from underneath the front. My friend didnt hear it like I did until I turned the radio down and made him listen, so its not extremely loud but its there. I feel like it should be more solid than that and there should be no noise over a road like this one. I attached a pic of the type of road im describing, its not the road I was on but very close. I have an off road but even cars can go up this thing so I wouldnt think I should be experiancing this at all. Any ideas, things I can check for? I did stop at first got under the truck and pulled on this and that and nothing seemed loose. Opened the hood and gave the steering link area a pull and there was deffinatly some play there, dont know if that should be tight or what (I could feel the clanging and "play" in the steering wheel). Am I just being paranoid here? Here is the road, thanks.

My Truck does that too..... The last thing that i drove that did this was my 1982 VW Rabbit!

I have heard that it just in the Rack that makes it feel loose.

That's just my 2cents

That makes me feel a bit better, my tundra did it too but without the noise underneath. But it did have some play in the steering when creeping through some off road terrain. Do you think one of those steering stabalizers would help?

Man, I wish I could have fun like that. If you're unsure, just take a look underneathe and wiggle some stuff around. Everything should be tight.

My steering is really loose all the time so I dunno about all that off road stuff. I've got about 2.5 inches of play in the wheel. Its on my list......

Dolphin fan? I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. All I can say is it sounds like you had a great time. I wish I could go 4x4ing right now but here all we have to worry about is bloody flooding! Damn rain!

Hah, don't worry about me guys. The truck is sitting in my driveway on jack stands right now. Its got a lot of things that need attention before it hits the road again but that is fairly high on the list of things to correct.
