Default Magnaflow catback?

I have an 04 5.7 ram, it came with a magna flow catback, single inlet, dual outlet bolt-on exhaust. I took the tips off (hate them) and made it so the pipes angle up, and turn down just over the rear axle. There are no high flow cats, just the stock ones. Am I gaining any performance with this set-up? It sounds good and all, but is there a better alternative for performance? What if I add high flow cats?

that setup is good (I have a magnaflow too, dumped over axle)...an improvement would be an aftermarket Y pipe...check to see if the Y is stock (it will be pinched)..

Assuming it is the stock Y (should the catback come with one?) What would be a good choice? Or should I just fab one? What properties should I look for in a Y? I've never delt with one, always ran true duals

just make sure the Y is nice an open..typically catbacks don't include a Y...

My Magnaflow catback didnt come with a Y, but I do agree with chefred, it would help. Might consider a CAI and a tuner to really wake her up too

You aren't losing anything but as stated, check that y pipe. Get a nice smooth, mandrel bent one if yours is crimped.

Add a cold air intake, a DiabloSport Predator programmer, a 180 degree thermostat and wake that HEMI up!

Thanks a lot guys! I had already decided on the predatoer and BFI intake, so I guess now I'll check out my Y.

Yup, they hit it on the head. You can also get a complete header kit from dynatech with highflow cats and a mandrel bent y-pipe and they'll give go a lot more flow.
