Default Hemi Cooling?

Been doing a lot of research on the forum for cooling systems. I'm pretty convinced I'm going to do a 180 t-stat. But I've also seen an older thread regarding the V6 E-Fan. The last post was last year some time. Anyone still running this with good results. My biggest wonder is if these mods are right for me. I live in Minnesota so I see a huge range of temperatures between summer and winter. I've ran a 180 t-stat in winter before so I'm not too worried about that. But what about that E-Fan? From what I'm understanding is that it replaces is the factory AC fan and eliminates the the mechanical fan. Is there programming that can be done the DS inTune to kick that fan on if the AC isn't running?

A lot of times when questions like this get posted is "What do you want out of your truck?" The biggest thing is, I'm not going to have this truck forever, probably going to be trading every 3 years. So, I don't want to do a bunch of stuff to this thing and I lose my a$$ in money by not getting ANY return during trade in or even a sale. I know you never get back what you put into something but there is a line one can draw. But at the end of the day, I want my truck to perform while I have it.

Engine mods thus far, if it helps:
AFE Stage 1 Intake
DIY Catch Can
DS inTune

Thoughts anyone?

The fan will come on when it needs to, whether you have the a/c on or not.
...and although you can adjust the temps the fan kicks on to turn on sooner with a Diablo tuner,
I ran mine all winter on stock tune and it worked fine with my 180º stat.

So the fan will kick regardless if the AC is on? From what I've read so far is that this setup plugs directly into the AC harness and only runs if the AC is running. Which is fine for summer and winter (defrost + its cold out anyway) but it makes me wonder about the spring and fall months.

It's not just an A/C fan, its an "auxillary" fan designed to come on for additional cooling when ever temps reach a certain point ( 210ºF I believe)
regardless of whether the a/c is on or not. Anyone who tows on a regular basis will have the aux fan kick in when the mech fan cant go hard enough to keep up.

Ok...so if there's no mechanical fan, will the v6 e-fan mod cool efficiently enough on its own?

Absolutely! it pulls substantially harder then the stock e-fan
and is powerful enough to pull air through the rad at high velocity
....even without the mechanical fan in place.

The stock V6 cooling system has no mechanical fan, so their larger Efan is quite a bit better than the V8 auxillary fan...

This isn't exactly new, many here have been running this mod for 1-2 years without issue.
and long before us 3G Ram owners did it Ford Taurus fans.

It was a trick primarily for track trucks to shave weight and drive train loss.
Not really a good idea for a work truck that pulls a trailer on a regular basis.

There's no huge benefit for a daily driver, I just liked the way it opened up the engine compartment, makes installing my Ripp supercharger a breeze now.

With that being said, my truck is a daily driver and sees more pavement driving than I care to admit but my desire is offroad. I do see a lot of gravel as I live in a small ag community and my family's farm is right outstide of town. I don't do a lot of heavy towing, just here and there but I wouldn't be surprised if I haul some cattle at some point, upward of 4 or 6 head at a time. But even without the towing, I like to play in the mud and I will be taking this thing hunting, which can get hairy depending on the weather we get surrounding the season. Will I be at risk of high temps if I'm getting bogged down in mud? Spinning wheels without a lot of forward movement?

Based on everything you've said so far,
this is not a mod you need or want on your list.

Ok, I'm glad I asked. Thank you so much for you input on this!

What about the 180 t-stat? I ran one in my Jeep and it worked well for me. Would you recommend it?

For sure a 180º is a great mod, its cheap, easy and effective.
