Default Ok i got a doozy here

Ok guys check it out. I came across a gem here its an 01 5.9 extended cab ram 4x2 for 2500 bucks it needs some minor engine work and a few dents from country livin but i have some questions??? I currently have an 04 QC with aftermarket 20's and heres my questions any answers or a point in the right direction would be great.

1. did the lug pattern change between 01 and 04?
2. (A)can i swap the rear end being that the 04 is a disc brake rear end and (B) will i need to change the rear end gears due to the bigger engine?

These are the most important questions right now any help on this would be awesome!!!

thanks peeps

Ok, pulled off of tirerack.com:

'01 Ram 2500 QC 2WD pattern is 8x165

The lug patterns are still the same on the 2500s provided they're the 8-lug. Is the donor '04 a 1500 or a 2500? 'cuz I couldn't find any 20" rims for the 8-lug 2500 2WD.

I don't know if you can jsut swap them straight up, the mounting points may be different, and I believe the 2500s were designed with drums for the heavy duty aspect, but if you're not gonna use it like that then I'd say go for it. I'd also recommend doing the calculations for what tire diameter you have and what cruise RPM you want then choose gears accordingly.

The rear end swap is a great question. Would need to measure the mounting brackets and distance between leaf springs, shock mount locations, etc...

Do u think that it would be cheaper just to do a drum disc swap or a full rear end swap

Sorry, guess i should've read that a little closer, I guess I need to stop giving advice when I'm on the sauce

I think it's actuabbly be cheaper to do the swap as long as you're good with a welder and don't ahve to move many mounts. If you have to start cutting out and re-welding mounts then i'd be tempted to say go with a conversion kit, you'll probably have to get a high pressure master cylinder though to put more fluid pressure to 4 disc brakes.

ok so doing a rear axle swap is not impossible but it would be more expensive then doing a drum to disc upgrade. the cheapest i found the kit for is just under 800 shipped but that includes everything I need to complete it and they use the 13" rotors like the rears of the newer rams. now i need to address the minor engine issues. it has a slow leak in the ac but i located it to an o-ring so that should be easy to fix. now to my big issue!! There is a slow leak in the front main seal and it is about 4 hours to change but what in ur guys' opinion would be better? Should I (A) replace the front and rear main seals or (B) pull the engine and do a budget rebuild? any help here would be great!! its a 5.9 2001 gas engine with 185xxx on the drivetrain. The transmission is in pristine condition never towed anything and the 1 owner showed records of maintenance every 30k.

ok so i tried to swap rims today and heres what happened!!

the 20's will fit but the thread bolts on the 01 are smaller in width so that eliminates the 16" from the 01 going on the 04. so my question now is with the diameter of the bolts being smaller what do i have to do to keep the 20's from vibrating or does the lug nutz keep that from happening. as u see my fear i dont want them to vibrate but i have never dealt with smaller diameter bolts before. anyone have any input?
