Not sure on all the parts you would need, but thats a serious animal you would be diving into. Someone else on here had a similar question a while back and the common thought was it would be more cost effective to sell the truck and buy one similar year and miles but with 4wd, sure the truck would probably cost you a little more but couldnt be much more than doing a conversion like that.

That is a huge amount of work. Transfer case, transmission, axles, springs, spring perches, a-arms, re-locate or revise the steering and a whole lot more. Unless you plan on keeping the truck FOREVER, it's not very cost effective and there is a lot of fab work to do.

Not to be a downer or nuthin' but I'm with foxcrazy90...go buy a 4X4!

Ya on this one I agree with the above people...

...I do understand why you want a 4x4 tho. All I could afford at the time was the truck I have now...06 1500 slt 2wd 20,000 miles ($8500)...but what I really wanted was a quad cab 1500 4x4....cheapest one I could find with the same miles as I have on mine was around $14,000 which I just couldn't justify...plus losing the 8ft bed just to have back seats that Ill barely ever use wasn't worth it to me. I do which I had the 4x4 there tho just in case something ever happens that I need it

...The thought has passed my mind to trade in my truck for what I really wanted as its worth a lot more then I payed for it...but idk

4x4 is nice if you really have a use for it. If your just a casual driver like me and barely ever see the offroading side of things then 2wd is fine. All you need is some nice tires and a lil weight in the back and youll do just fine. Ive seen 2wd trucks with great tires do things 4x4 trucks with crap tires cant. Not trying to say 2wd is better in any way lol...but if your needs for the truck are different 2wd is feasible.

If you're wanting altitude and dont necessarily need 4wd, why not lift your 2wd and shoot for the prerunner look?
