Lightbulb Alpine or Pioneer Premier? Please help me decide!

Ok guys so after looking for some HUs on craigslist since my budget it's tight (I cannot spend more than $120) I found two stereos I like, I also found double dins, but they are no branded (say like pioneer, kenwood, alpine, etc) and I'd read bad reviews on them so I will stay with the regular single din CD/MP3/WMA HUs... I've owned pioneer premier HUs in the past, and actually have one on my step dad's SUV, so I do really like pioneers, but Alpine always seem to pop up, I went to 3 different local shops, and they said that Alpine and Pioneer are 2 of the best brands, with that on mind let me give you guys the links to the craigslist post

Pioneer Premier DEH-P880PRS
http://houston.craigslist.org/ele/1456612211.html

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PU...rs/DEH-P880PRS

Alpine CDE-102
http://houston.craigslist.org/ele/1452691128.html

http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...?model=CDE-102

So what will be the best bang for my buck?

Note that I will later on be able to use my iphone or ipod with those HUs, both alpine and Pioneer sale those cables seperate, and I can get then real cheap on eBay, I like the pioneer more even though it's used unlike the Alpine which it's new, so let me know, I will listen to all your suggestions between those two HUs.

I have the Alpine CDE 101 (the original iPod model) in mine. I love it!! I rarely listen to the radio and I put all my music on my iPod so no need for a CD player. I have had a Pioneer HU in the past and it went out after a year or so. Been very happy with the Alpine!!

As for the difference between the two, depends on much you like to adjust your music. I prefer to leave the settings where I like it and not touch it.

The pioneer I mentioned on my step dad's SUV has been there for 5 years now, never had problems with that HU, I agree with you on not touching the settings once I sett them up to my liking!

The Pioneer is already 5 years old? That would make me leary.

Yes, it's been there for a while that SUV was mine, I spent a lot of money on the audio part, but yeah I guess I will be buying the pioneer premier HU from the craigslist post, we'll see if any other members can help decide between the two, both HUs have great features though, and I like them both.

Have you considered just doing a factory type set up. Idk how crazy you want to get into the radio. If you upgrade the HU you will most likely want to upgrade the speakers. If you like music that much you mind as well as some sort of external amp...and mind as well throw at least one 10in sub back there. Lol see where im going with this. I have a nice system in the 91 firebird but the truck I just started to play with. Just a suggestion...

Idk if your 02 has an AUX input but I know my 06 does. I just had the local car audio shop, good friends with the guys there, if you are in this area I can help you out btw, install my Sirius Radio I had laying around from an old car. I love it. I hate regular radio and dont really own alot of CDs. I do have an IPOD and love listing to sirius radio so the AUX input on mine was perfect. I can post some pictures of the install if you want. It looks very clean. I specifically told them no window mount...I dont want to lose a 12v plug in, and I dont want to see any cords. They did just that. It looks very clean and very good. Im happy (plus it was dirt cheap so I cant go wrong with that lol). Only cord you see is about 3 inches of the aux plug in that goes to the front of the radio. Everything else is hidden.

on second thought, i just saw that its rca preouts were bad...your gonna loose sub control and you dont get a great signal going to your amps using line level adapters like hes talking about...if you have no amps, i say get pioneer. if your using amps, dont do it.

I prefer the Alpine units over the Pioneers but that's a personal choice.

Go with what works best for you. If one has a feature that you like that isn't available on the other one, go for the one that fits your needs.

I've owned several Alpine units over the last 16 years and never had a problem with one of them
