Default How many miles before changing to syn?

No intention in making this an oil brand debate. Just would like to know when (in miles) it would be advantageous to switch over to syn oil.
Search function had a post that mentioned that the conversion should not happen until 20000 to 30000 km which is about 12500 to 18500 miles. Is that a good reference point to switch over?

Background: 2008 1500 ST with 3.7 V-6 6spd stick, 5300 miles now, bought with 2400 miles on it from carmax and they changed the oil and filter the day I drove it off their lot so there is only ~3000 miles on the dino in it. I only put about 350 miles @ month on it if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance for any input.

i don't think there is a certain mileage per se, i know people who have done right off the lot and other after 130,000, haven't seen any problems with either.

Go ahead and whitch to synthetic at the next change. It wont hurt anything, and IMO the sooner you get the benefits of synthetic started, the better. Viper engines come from the factory with M1 already in them.

Quite a few owners change over at the first 3,000 mile change. You can still do it so go ahead!

Some say not to switch to synthetic till 12500, the reason being is to let the rings seat into the cylinder walls... supposedly synthetic slows/stops this proceedure.

It shouldn't matter. So many vehicles come out of the factory with synthetic. My Audi did, and when I worked for GM all of the LS-series V-8s and Northstar V-8s came with synthetic. You shouldn't have a problem at all.

There is no reference point as to what mileage a vehicle has to be to run full synthetic oil....There are so many misconceptions out there about switching to full synthetic oil, you will be fine...Go ahead and switch over
