The modules in todays vehicles are much like personal computers that are networked together and control nearly every function on board and like pc's these modules are programmed with software that sometimes needs to be updated to correct or prevent problems.

Good info there, man, thanks for sharing and great to have a tech on board! If it hasn't been suggested to you already, you should check out the Mechanics SIG here on the RamZ!

I've already joined that one on someone elses reccomendation. I'll post another thread later regarding goodwill policy. I'm betting most people are unaware of how that works.

Wish I would have known about this the last time I had servicing.

I complained about an idle and shifting issues.

When I picked up the truck and asked why nothing was, he said they can only perform what pops up on your VIN.

Not too mention, the last flash they did, my mpg dropped to 16.5
They screwed up my rhino on my tailgate.
My passenger tube step is loose.

I'm just not enjoying driving the truck anymore.

So if they screw up my Diablo Predator tune with an unwanted update, can I have them flash it back for free?

I'm assuming you meant if you were to do it would they flash it for free? I very much doubt it unless by some chance the stock software p/n is retained in the PCM memory and they aren't aware the calibrations have changed.

Your stock tune is stored in the Predator hand-held. Anytime Diablo has an updated tune, the factory tune has to be reinstalled to empty the handheld. Then you download the new tune from Diablo's website, and install the new tune, everytime you install a new tune, it will store the factory tune in the handheld. You can also store a copy on your computer also.

One quick note, Diablo usually takes care of computer reflashes before Chrysler does. Chrysler always seems to lag behind on solving problems. The Diablo website will show the latest Crom file, and what the update solves - e.g. shifting problems.

I like your rear window vinyl sign, and the coloring!!! I put one on my wife's truck that said "Bad Ass Girls Drive Bad Ass Trucks".

Can I ask a dumb question?

How would one know if one needed a flash? Is there a website to check if new flashes are available? Should I just take the old girl to the service department and ask if they would hook her up and have a go at her?

The whole truck computer thing is a new venture for me. PCs, can do. PCMs, not so much.

You'll have to take it in to have it checked for updates, but with the pre 2006 trucks, I wouldn't bother unless I had a problem. From 2006 and up, the Ram is on a CAN bus network which is much faster and easier to flash, plus most of these vehicles are still under warranty. They also have more modules in them that require updating to correct or prevent a problem.
