Default Shaking at 65mph +/lemon law?

I have an 09 4x4 Longhorn with 20 inch wheels. I have taken the truck to the dealer five times for the same issue of shaking of the steering wheel 65 mph +. The first two times they balance tires and third time the dealer road force balance tires and fourth time they switched tires and rims with others on the lot. This did not fix the problem. The fifth time they put a new rack and pinion on the truck. The problem continues. It seems that they can not figure out the problem. They are just throwing parts at the truck. I am tired of this issue. The truck has 11000 miles on it. I understand that the lemon law states that in Maryland is 15,000 miles/ one year. I am curious is anyone else is having this problem. Has anyone ever taken back a vehicle under the lemon law. I have never experienced this before with a new vehicle. I am very disappointed with my first dodge truck.

This is a known issue with the '09 trucks and Chrysler has published a TSB about it. I'm curious to know if this vibration lessens after 15-20 miles. The TSB addresses flat spotting of the tires, so swapping with a lot vehicle isn't likely to help. I would speak to your dealers service manager about putting on brand new tires. The TSB allows for this as a last resort.

Sorry to hear about your problems. If it was me, here is what I would do. First skip the dealer and go to a reputable tire dealer, like a Discount Tire, etc. They can check the tires for broken belts or tires being built not symetrical. Nitto tires are famous for this. If the tire is on the balancer, they check that the tread is not going from side to side because the tire was stamped crooked. The Nitto's have a large center groove, and on a bad tire you can see the groove move an 1/8 of an inch from side to side causing a tire wobble.
Note: Most people do not know this, when you buy a new vehicle, you can take it to a tire place like NTB, Discount tire, etc and purchase the non pro-rated road hazard certificates for your tires. So if you blow out a tire, it is free.

Now if all this does not work and you are fed up with the situation, you proceed to start the buy-back process. I will explain how to manipulate the system in your favor.
  • First call the Chrysler 800 number and initiate a buy back. Be calm and tell them that the truck has been in five times and the problem is not repaired. Tell them this is a safety issue, and you do not want to be on the highway and get pulled into oncoming traffic or have a part on the front end break and roll the truck.
  • When the third party calls you to investigate the claim (it should be a company called ISG), be very calm and explain your story. The more calm you are, the more they want to help. Be firm and ask to have the truck bought back, and you will replace it with another Dodge truck.
  • When you do a buy back, it does not matter what you paid for the truck, they go list to list. If your truck listed for $37,000.00 and the new truck you picked out is $38,000.00. You just pay the $1000.00 difference plus tax. If you pick a vehicle out that is $36,000.00, you lose the $1000.00. Also, you do not have to pick another truck, you can pick a Jeep, Chrysler or even a Dodge car.
Also, this does not have anything to do with the lemon law of the state. If you use the lemon law, you will have to get a lawyer and sue Chrysler. The buy-back is much faster and easier.

There was a gentleman on here by the name of Griebz that had the same issue . I know he had started Lemon law procedures . Might want to pm him and see what ever happened to him . Would be interesting if they replaced it with a 2010 .

I'm not sure . His last response was he was going to sue them . Haven't seen or heard from him since . I would love to see Chrysler give him a new vehicle . Hopefully this would keep him as a Chrysler enthusiast . We all know that all the manufacturers out there have their issues . I hate to see someone this unhappy with a product . I love all my mopars that I own . Yes some of them have their issues . Nothing that I can't deal with . Well maybe someone can pm him and see how it's going . I just can't belive that no one out there can't resolve this issue for him .

I know when I bought my wifes new 09' Ram Sport Crew Cab 4X4, it did not shake. But before I brought it home, I ordered new tires for it. Those Goodyears were the shittiest tires I ever drove on, they had way too much sidewall flex. I replaced them with Yokohama Prada Spec-X. The ride was 50% better and the handling was 100% better. Then I replaced the brakes, added a catch can, CAI, and Predator tune. Now I just need to replace the thermostat and add the Corsa exhaust.
